The

Data-Driven Decisions Lab (3DL)

at the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a pioneering research programme focused on insurance and assurance for AI evaluation and risk management.


This position is part of the AI2 (Algorithmic Assurance and Insurance) research initiative, an ambitious programme supported by the

UK Prosperity Research Scheme

with partners from both industry and academia. Our mission is to develop foundational models for evaluating, managing, and pricing risk in AI systems.


As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will report to

Dr Agni Orfanoudaki

and work at the interface of AI, operations research, and management science, developing rigorous and practical methods for algorithmic risk assessment. You will become part of the broader AI2 collaboration, involving leading researchers from the University of Edinburgh School of Mathematics (

Prof. Lukasz Szpruch

,

Prof. David Siska

) and the Warwick University School of Engineering (

Prof. Carsten Maple

). You will also be provided time to further your own independent research in this area.


Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct original research at the intersection of operations research, AI, and management science.
  • Translate industry needs into academic research by engaging with insurers, regulators and tech developers.
  • Publish in top-tier journals and present at leading conferences.
  • Mentor PhD students and research assistants and collaborate with other postdocs.
  • Support grant writing and funding applications to extend the lab’s research impact.
  • Represent the research group in academic, industry and policy-making forums.

You will hold a PhD/DPhil in a relevant quantitative field such as Operations Research, Management Science, Mathematics, Computer Science or Engineering. You should have a strong track record of academic publications and a solid understanding of current research in the field. Additionally, you must demonstrate the ability to independently plan and manage a research project, including overseeing a research budget.
