We are seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher to join the lab of Professor Harrison Steel at the Department of Engineering Science in central Oxford. The post is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and is fixed-term for up to eighteen months.
The research project will focus on the intersection of robotics, automation, and biotechnology, with an interdisciplinary team working to build this new paradigm of environmentally-friendly and functional living materials, which can be used in diverse application domains. The project team includes leaders in biotechnology, design, and engineering across Northumbria, Oxford, and Imperial, as well as start-ups and SME collaborators who are already bringing novel materials to market.
Applicants should hold a PhD, or be near completion of a PhD, in fields relating to biotechnology, engineering, and/or automation/manufacturing. You should have an interest in innovative problem solving and work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team. Experience in software development and application to automated instruments or robotics would be advantageous.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Harrison Steel (email: harrison.steel@eng.ox.ac.uk).
Only online applications received before midday on 12 May 2024 can be considered. You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, that includes a brief statement of research interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit the advertised position), a CV, and the details of two referees as part of your online application.
The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology.
