The Institute of Education has an exciting opportunity for a Placement Manager in the Primary Education department.  

 The successful candidate will work closely with the Strategic Partnership Lead for primary in managing placement opportunities, working with our partnership schools. They will have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, to ensure that the placement arrangements are managed effectively. This post focuses on ensuring a high-quality placement experience where trainees can develop into excellent teachers, by the end of their training. It involves working closely with university tutors, school placement colleagues and trainee teachers.  

 The successful candidate will have a knowledge and understanding of the Teachers’ Standards and the Core Content Framework for trainee teachers. They will have engaged with the Quality requirements for ITT delivery 2024 and understand the anticipated requirements for placement arrangements such as mentor training and development, Intensive Training and Practice opportunities, progress for trainees against the Provider curriculum. They will also have knowledge (and preferably experience) of monitoring trainee progress on placement, support and intervention approaches and QA.  

 We are looking for some-one who is self-motivated, can think flexibly and innovatively, is enthusiastic and has good interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will also need to demonstrate an attention to compliance requirements as well as keeping abreast of latest best practice in ITTE. 

 The Primary Department is part of the Institute of Education, which has 4 Departments: Secondary Education, Primary Education, Children and Families, Education and Inclusion. Choose an aspect of the Teachers’ Standards/UW ITE curriculum that you think is important for trainee teachers to develop in practice (placement) and explain (or demonstrate) how you would prepare trainees to develop this area. For example, a deliberate practice activity, ITaP focus or similar.

10 mins: placement management

Building upon the teaching focus, identify three key preparations a teacher training department should make for a successful school placement.
