We are seeking an academic with expertise in ethics and research management to support and develop cross-programme education at LSTM. The successful candidate will work closely with academic colleagues in the Faculty of Education, as well as more widely across LSTM and partnerships, to enhance dissertation and project processes across our degree programmes. They will also lead on Masters’ research ethics review procedures, ensuring rigorous and effective governance of student research.

The postholder will have experience in higher education, particularly in low-resource settings, and demonstrate a commitment to student-centred, research-informed teaching. This role provides an exciting opportunity to inspire students and shape the future of research ethics and dissertation processes at LSTM.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the enhancement of dissertation/project processes across all degree programmes in line with LSTM's vision and mission.
  • Leading Masters’ research ethics review processes, chairing the Masters Research Ethics Panels.
  • Developing the dissertation/project elements of LSTM academic programmes, working closely with colleagues to build research capacity and capability in the student population.
  • Ensuring the sustainability and scalability of LSTM’s approach to dissertations/projects by developing innovative supervision methods and expanding the supervisory pool.
  • Ensuring dissertation/project design and delivery meet LSTM’s quality standards and lead on accreditation and monitoring processes.
  • Teaching research ethics principles and processes across Masters programmes, including leading the online dissertation module.
  • Working closely with LSTM’s Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) team to embed technological innovation in curriculum development.
  • Contributing to the development of the educational research evidence base to support educational interventions in line with LSTM’s mission and strategy.
  • Contributing to networking and joint initiatives with partner organisations, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, to enhance educational programme delivery.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A PhD in a relevant subject area.
  • Knowledge of research in low- and middle-income countries.
  • Knowledge of the pedagogical principles underlying effective learning, teaching, and assessment.
  • Fellowship (D2 or higher) of the Higher Education Academy (Advance HE) or demonstrable potential to achieve this within a year of appointment.
  • Experience in developing academic programmes, preparing programme and module specifications, and content development in higher education.
  • Experience working as an academic in the UK Higher Education sector.
  • Experience conducting research in low-resource settings.
  • Experience in quality assurance of higher education programmes.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and strong interpersonal skills, including effective communication orally and in writing.
  • Commitment to student-centred and research-informed teaching.
  • Ability to critically assess work to ensure quality and accuracy of output.
  • Ability to lead projects with multiple stakeholders across institutions and deliver against agreed timeframes and milestones.
