As Laboratory Analytical Expert, you will support the research platform Plastics in the Environment and Society (PLENTY).
The research platform (PLENTY) investigates global plastic pollution in a holistic approach. In addition to the biotic and abiotic interactions on the surface of plastic in aquatic systems, the aim is to investigate how information and altered perception can potentially change the use of plastics in society and the associated material flows.
We are seeking a new colleague with expertise in high-resolution mass spectrometry (HR-MS) and non-target screening for analyzing tire wear additives in complex samples, including dust and environmental matrices. The role will involve developing and implementing impact screening techniques on human cell lines, contributing to the understanding of human exposure to tire wear particles.
The position is limited to 3 months.
Your future tasks:
- Perform advanced HR-MS analyses (Orbitrap, Triple Quadrupole) to identify and quantify tire wear additives and related compounds.
- Conduct non-target screening of complex samples from dust, environmental matrices, and human exposure routes.
- Coordinate laboratory workflows, ensuring accurate sample extraction and analysis.
- Develop methodologies for screening the impact of tire wear additives on human cell lines.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on environmental and human exposure assessments.
- Support to supervise graduate and undergraduate students in related research projects.
- Present research findings at scientific conferences and prepare manuscripts for publication.
This is part of your personality:
- PhD in Environmental Science
- Extensive experience with Orbitrap mass spectrometry and Triple Quadrupole MS for both target and non-target screening for tire wear additives.
- Strong background in environmental analytics and sample extraction techniques.
- Proficiency in analyzing HR-MS data, especially related to tire-derived compounds.
- Experience in air sampling and analyzing micropollutants in environmental matrices.
- Strong laboratory skills in environmental chemistry, including handling and analyzing complex dust and environmental samples.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise students and collaborate on interdisciplinary research.
- Excellent scientific communication skills, with a proven record of publications and conference presentations.
- Fluency in English; fluency in German and Spanish is a plus.
