Internal Applicants Only - Senior Systems Support Developer Analyst
This role is based within the Corporate Systems function of University IT and will join the Finance Systems technical team. The post will lead on the technical development, implementation and rollout of systems and processes to support the University’s Finance function., working closely with colleagues in both IT and Finance on an important transformation project to enhance and extend the finance systems in use at the University.
This is full-time and fixed term for 15 months.
Salary: £50,694 - £55,295 per annum (Grade 7)

Job Description
Main Function
The job requires the role holder to:
- Manage a centre of expertise within the organisation, taking responsibility for the development and maintenance of complex technical systems, covering all aspects of the systems lifecycle, advising on the impact on strategic development and plans.
- Take a lead role in the specification and design of large or complex systems.
- Agree appropriate design standards, methods and tools in consultation with senior management.
- Ensure that all work is documented using the appropriate standards, methods and tools.
- Liaise with colleagues where appropriate on cost benefit analyses, risk analysis and development plans.
- Liaise with external suppliers and lead the assessment and selection of suitable software packages to meet all or parts of specified requirements.
- Maintain awareness of relevant software packages assessing their ability to meet operational requirements. Maintain an understanding current and emerging technologies advising colleagues and management on their technical suitability.
- Provide technical expertise, advice and guidance on all aspects of design and technology within your remit, being the key point of reference for your technical domain and establishing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Review technology costs against planned budgets, liaise with technology suppliers of equipment, software and services to maximise value and return on investment.
- Ensure that all tasks and procedures are carried out effectively and efficiently to agreed levels of service. Produce statistics for use in measuring key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Receive, log and prioritise support requests in accordance with agreed criteria and the needs of the organisation, escalating requests to development staff or suppliers where appropriate.
- Ensure that problems are managed in accordance with agreed standards and processes, and that escalation procedures are adhered to, ensuring that complex and high impact problems are dealt with effectively using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action
- Work within matrix-teams of staff across the organisation to deliver enhanced technology solutions to the University. Provide advice and guidance where necessary.
- Lead or participate in projects, managing the operation of project teams. Consult with and advise Project Managers to help them plan, prioritise and set project milestones to ensure that resources are appropriately deployed in order to meet deadlines. Ensure that the provision of the service is delivered to the institution, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirement, contributing to the development of institution wide standards.
Establish relationships with key contacts to ensure role objectives are met, developing appropriate communication links with internal and external stakeholders.
- Create specific working groups from colleagues across the University to achieve departmental objectives
Ensure resources are deployed effectively so that objectives are met by clarifying goals, setting tasks and monitoring progress. Abide by University policies on Health and Safety and Equality and Diversity.Perform other duties occasionally that are not included above, but consistent with the role. Complete tasks normally associated with junior colleagues to meet operational demands. Undertake duties associated with a more senior role for developmental purposes.
Where the role requires staff management and leadership the following responsibilities will also apply:
- Manage performance, inductions and development of staff under the line management of the role holder. Support and guide team members in welfare issues, escalating as necessary to specialist support areas.

9. Demonstrable knowledge and experience in problem, error and knowledge management analysis, resolution and delivery techniques.
Qualifications and Education
10. Postgraduate / Professional membership/experience/ NVQ 5 or equivalent experience
Desirable Criteria
11. Knowledge of Corporate Finance Systems.
12. Management qualification in ITIL, or similar.
13. Ability to communicate in welsh or have a willingness to learn.
