This is an exciting opportunity to be a member of a National Institute for Health and Care Research-funded study team working aims to understand safety, risks and the balance of harms and benefits arising from care received by patients within their own homes. The study is led by Professor Andrew-Carson Stevens, Professor of Patient Safety, at Cardiff University.
The successful candidate will work with closely with Professor Andrew Carson-Stevens and colleagues from the School of Medicine, the School of Law and Politics, and the Centre for Adult Social Care Research (CARE) at Cardiff University, our public contributors, ENRICH Cymru and University College London.

The successful applicant will play an important role in managing a research database for the study. You will work closely with the study team to design a study database, ensure secure transfer and management of sensitive data, be responsible for data governance. You will ensure the quality of data prior to interrogation and analysis. You will also exploit the database to extract and generate data for peer-reviewed publications and audit. You will be expected to develop strong relationships with and work alongside academic, clinical / service and research staff. You will also be involved in the further development, management and updating of data-sharing agreement requirements with a partner organisation.

Salary: £33,482 - 36,130 per annum pro rata. (Grade 5)

Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.

This post is part-time (28 hours per week) Monday - Thursday and fixed term available from March 1st 2025 until February 28th 2027.

This role is based at Heath Park.

The majority of roles at Cardiff University are currently operating under “blended working” arrangements, with staff having the flexibility to work partly from home and partly from the University campus depending on specific business requirements. Discussions around these arrangements can take place after the successful candidate has been appointed.

Job Description

Main function
Support the University within data management carrying out and supporting work, providing advice, guidance and support, and leading projects within this area

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Key Duties

  • Provide professional advice and guidance on data governance and data management processes and procedures to internal and external customers, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate, and ensuring complex and conceptual issues are understood
  • Investigate and analysis of specific issues within data governance and data management, creating recommendation reports, supported by advances within this field.
  • Ensure that the provision of data management and data governance is delivered to the institution, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirements
  • Collaborate with others in order to make recommendations for developments of established processes and procedures
  • Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required
  • Create specific working groups from colleagues across the University to achieve departmental objectives
  • Supervise specific project teams on an occasional basis to accomplish key objectives
  • Develop and deliver training within data governance
  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties to support the department
  • Instruct and guide other employees across the University within data governance as required

Person Specification

Qualifications and Education

  • Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience
  • Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Substantial experience of working within data management
  • Able to demonstrate professional knowledge within research governance, data systems and procedures and give advice and guidance to internal and external customers
  • Ability to set up standard office systems and procedures and make improvements as appropriate
  • Customer Service, Communication and Team Working
  • Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people
  • Evidence of ability to explore customers’ needs and adapt the service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered
  • Planning, Analysis and Problem solving
  • Evidence of ability to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity; identifying and proposing practical solutions and resolving problems with range of potential outcomes
  • Evidence of demonstrable knowledge of key advances within data management
