The Civic HealthTech Innovation Zone (CHI-Zone) is being established to accelerate the growth of the health and life science sector, upskill residents and create jobs for the Liverpool City Region. As Head of Digital Solutions Engineering, you will lead teams, design, develop and test digital and data-driven solutions to pressing problems posed by commissioners and providers or health and care services. We are seeking an exceptional candidate with experience delivering technical support projects/programmes, a keen interest in digital transformation and a proven ability to lead teams to deliver challenge-driven practical solutions to a high standard through technology intervention.

The University¿s Civic Health Innovation Labs (CHIL) is working with partners to deliver the CHI-Zone. This funded post sits within the Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC), part of the Institute for Digital Engineering and Autonomous Systems (IDEAS).

You will be a key member of the VEC team, working at the Digital Innovation Facility (DIF) on the University of Liverpool campus, but also work with staff at the Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC) facility located on the Sci-Tech Daresbury campus as required. You will also work closely with university colleagues from the Civic Health Innovation Labs (CHIL) and engage with a wide range of health and care service commissioners, providers and industry stakeholders.

This role is strategically important and the successful candidate will have a proactive approach to developing transformational digital innovation interventions to enhance, facilitate and support the social care ecosystem within the Liverpool City Region. You will oversee and lead technical specialists whilst supporting SMEs to innovate through the adoption of digital technologies, helping the network to find and apply solutions to digital tool and integration challenges, ensuring the delivery of technical support.

This role involves the use of leadership, managerial and engineering skills and experience around `industrial digitalisation, digital transformation, team and project management¿ alongside a high level of awareness around the `digitalisation agenda and new technology¿ `adoption¿. With knowledge and keen interest in various `emerging disruptive technologies¿ such as the latest trends in AI, Spatial computing, AI governance, Actionable analytics, Ambient Intelligence, Web3, Blockchain, Quantum Computing, Cyber-Physical Systems and Digital Twins. 

The candidate will be a thought leader, with a pragmatic and proactive approach to leading matrix style teams to produce effective digital solutions. The candidate will have an ability to manage complex and competing workloads in a fast-changing environment, enabling projects to drive forwards to meaningful outcomes.

This post will run from 1st July 2025 until 31st October 2026.

Amongst other key benefits, we operate a hybrid working policy and you will have 28 days holiday + University closure days (usually 6) + bank holidays (usually 8).

Although the university has a hybrid working system, the expectation is that the successful applicant appointed to this role will be expected to work more than 60% on campus.
