Do you enjoy innovating and managing editorial and leadership aspects of journals?
Do you want to lead a thriving team of editors in a truly interdisciplinary, iconic journal that publishes the best in science?
Location: Cell Press has editorial offices in the US (Cambridge MA), UK (Oxford and London), The Netherlands (Amsterdam) China (Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen) and India (Delhi and Chennai). There is a preference for an individual who is close to one of these office locations.
About our Team
At Cell Press, part of Elsevier's premium portfolio of STM Journals, we collaborate with researchers to facilitate the publication of their impactful scientific discoveries, focusing on rigorous peer review, ethics, and reproducibility. Supporting our portfolio of over 50 hybrid and open access scientific journals, you will actively contribute to advancing science, improving health outcomes, and fostering equitable participation in publishing.
About the Role
We are looking for a new Executive Editor to lead the Cell Press journal iScience. Since its launch in 2018, iScience has become established as a key international Open Access journal featuring the latest developments in fundamental and applied interdisciplinary research, covering the life, physical, earth, social, and health sciences. A fast-paced peer-review process, exceptional author service and the strong international reputation of Cell Press and Elsevier are many of the distinctive features that make iScience’ s character unique.
The Executive Editor is a leadership role with responsibility for all organizational aspects of the journal. This includes managing a global in-house editor team, who ensures the evaluation of submissions; formulating, developing, and implementing the journal strategy and editorial direction that ensures IScience remains topical, distinctive, impactful and innovative. Executive Editor also has responsibilities for supporting the development of the broader Cell Press journal portfolio, forming effective partnerships with colleagues in our Operations, Marketing and Strategy teams, as well as with other editorial teams at Cell Press.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape and lead a premier interdisciplinary journal and play a senior role in the vibrant and growing Cell Press journal portfolio.
Responsibilities

Managing content growth volume and journal coverage. The Executive Editor/Executive Editor will ensure that content growth is continued in volume and revenue, adapting the use of resources and workflows but also ensuring resilience and minimizing risk while maintaining quality.
Key operational priorities will be speed, article retention and editorial efficiency, working together with Editorial Operations to adapt workflows and create innovative roadmaps.
Building global networks and ensure the journal remains connected to its communities.
Shaping and implementing a journal strategy that ensures iScience remains topical, distinctive, impactful, agenda-setting, and the top destination for research in the space and achieves our business goals.
Collaborating with Cell Press colleagues to broaden our footprint and ensure we continue to meet the needs of the research communities we serve and find appropriate homes for their research.
Collaborate with other editorial teams in Cell Press to understand the vision and scope of the relevant journals to match research with the appropriate vision and scope.
Some travel to participate in conferences; visit top research institutes to engage with researchers and represent iScience and the wider Cell Press titles in the communities we serve.
