Dental Technician

Working within a team of dental technicians, the post holder will be able to carry out the construction of a range of fixed and removable dental oro-facial and intra oral custom-made appliances for patients primarily under treatment by dental undergraduate although there may be some opportunities for postgraduate student patients.

To consult and advise students and supervisors on technical issues during patient visits, and to adjust and re-finish any restoration prior to fitting to the patient, where necessary, using established dental technology techniques.

To assist the laboratory administrative team with the booking and booking out of technical work from the dental laboratories and answering queries from dental undergraduates.

Based in Bristol Dental School’s brand-new clinical facility (opened in 2023), and working in the dental laboratory facility, you will be working to deliver the technical service to the school. Constructing customised restorations, using classic and modern methods.

The Dental Production Laboratory works in conjunction with the University Dental School Prosthetics Teaching Laboratory, where technical instruction is provided to undergraduate dental students. An integral part of this role is to give technical support where needed, to assist the teaching staff in the delivery of this teaching.

As a new dental laboratory, emphasis is placed on delivering dental technology with the latest materials and techniques, this includes CAD design, 3d printing and CAM, using milling machines. Bristol Dental School is making further investment in digital technologies over the next 12 months.

  • You have knowledge and some experience in dental technology and are driven to develop your skills.
  • You have excellent IT skills, and a working knowledge of relevant specialist dental software, including 3d design and production, using 3d printing technology and CNC milling.
  • You have excellent organisational skills, with the ability to deal with and prioritise a range of ongoing tasks at the same time, and to be able to cope under pressure.
  • You can devise, review and deliver dental technology procedures, with the ability to work (with support) independently, towards pre-defined goals.
  • You will have an innovative approach to work, with the aspiration of continuous improvement of self within the dental technology field.
  • You are registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) as a DCP (Dental Technician), or you have recently applied, with a GDC registerable qualification, and are awaiting confirmation of acceptance onto the register.

Contract type: Open ended

Salary: £30,805 - £35,116 per annum
