The Department

NEON is a national charitable incorporated organisation which drives forward opportunity and social mobility in higher education by championing access and success in higher education from those from lower income backgrounds, black and minority ethnic groups, disabled students, older learners and other groups under-represented in higher education. It is a member-based organisation with over 150 organisations as members including over 100 universities. NEON provides professional development for staff in the higher education sector; creates the space to share and improve practice and works directly with politicians and policymakers to advocate for the students we serve. 

The Role 

  • Support the Director in the planning of NEON’s online and physical professional development programme, to include liaison with presenters, speakers and delegates, and facilitating the evaluation of all events. This will include include organising the delivery of online events and occasionally working with physical venues.
  • Recording and processing of event participant information and working with NEON’s  membership and finance officer to maintain financial records relating the NEON programme.
  • Ensuring that content related to the NEON programme is organised, and available via the NEON website to the NEON community.
  • Work with the Director of NEON to market NEON’s professional development programme to both members and non-members through direct email, website and social media to achieve agreed participation targets.
  • Support the development of the NEON programme, working with the Director, to include the introduction of an accreditation framework associated with the NEON professional development programme.
  • Support the chairs of NEON working groups regarding the arrangement and publicising of meetings and uploading any materials to the NEON website.
  • Produce the NEON weekly news bulletin for members to include producing content, design and distribution.
  • Update the NEON website and social media presence to maintain the external profile of the organisation.
  • Organise NEON Trustee meetings which includes collating the papers for the meetings and taking minutes.
  • Engage various administrative duties as needed to successfully fulfil the function of the position.
  • The Person

    We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual as our Events and Membership Services Officer. Reporting to the Deputy Director this role will take responsibility for the effective running of NEON’s event programme, including our annual awards ceremony and Summer Symposium. They should have experience of providing excellent customer service, as well as being highly organised and being able to work remotely, to agreed targets, with minimal supervision. Candidates should also have a high level of both literacy and communication skills. They should be able to work with the Microsoft Office suite of applications and be able to produce engaging web content.
