The IT Department

The Business Data Analyst sits in the Enterprise Architecture Team within our Technology Department that is crucial to making sure our employees and students can work effectively, deliver projects, find the right solutions and ensure we develop the technology that will make the biggest difference. Our IT team is made up of around 60 employees with a vast range of skills from Software Development to IT Operations and Security. Our IT Department values employee development and we have lots of great examples of employee progression and promotions within the team.

The Role – Business Data Analyst

The Business Data Analyst will deliver data architecture strategy as part of a change process, bringing together people, process and best practice to embed data operating models or plan and monitor remediation activities that fulfil business objectives and adhere to architectural policy.

This role will be responsible for the creation and maintenance of relevant artefacts and repositories to support the Design Authority function and ensure visibility of areas of data risk and opportunity.

The Business Data Analyst offers technical support and guidance for specific data initiatives, playing a key role in implementing Data Architecture direction and strategy to effectively support the current and future information needs of the business..

This role also supports the creation of data policy to ensure it aligns with the wider organisations modern, scalable data architectures, models and technologies to enhance data accuracy and enable key stakeholders to access critical information through flexible visualisation solutions to provide insight and gain business advantage.

As part of this role, they will work as part of an empowered team of data experts to help deliver their plans, offering their support, and experience to ensure best practise processes are embedded in all activities.

About You

To be successful as a Business Data Analyst you must have:

  • Excellent data analysis and handling skillsets.
  • Good understanding of cloud technologies relating to data and associated integrations.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills — able to identify key issues and patterns from partial/conflicting data; with the ability to take a broad perspective to problems and assimilate new, less obvious solutions.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Experience of data mapping and analysis processes.
  • Experience in applying relevant Business Analysis techniques such as use cases, user stories, focus groups etc. in the elicitation process.
  • Experience in a range of testing methodologies, such as User Acceptance Testing Experience of using process mapping tools such as Visio to map as is/to be business processes.
  • Experience in assisting technical/business teams by identifying improvements and solutions that help to ensure the delivery of project benefits, whilst also understanding the impact on users.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Understanding of IT systems used in higher education, such as Student Records, Finance, Office 365/SharePoint
  • Experience of process mapping and process re-engineering for business processes and underpinning technical solutions
  • Cloud integrations
  • Azure, Fabric or AWS certifications or training
  • ITIL Foundation.
  • BA or Project Management qualification e.g. PRINCE2 or Agile PM
  • Evidence of Data or Analytical certification
