About Us

Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement (P&A) provides a fundraising and alumni engagement function in support of King’s College London. We are proud to work with colleagues across the university and its health partners to help them serve society through world-leading education, research and healthcare.  Our work also includes a partnership with the Maudsley Charity (the King’s Maudsley Partnership) in support of children’s mental health initiatives between the university’s Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience and the South London & Maudsley NHS Trust.

We are a committed team that brings together fundraisers working across different channels, alongside colleagues who promote King’s College London’s engagement with its worldwide alumni community. Our work is underpinned and enhanced by a range of dedicated professionals in supporting areas covering proposition development, supporter engagement, supporter operations and business operations.

About the role

This is an exciting time for philanthropy at King’s College London, as we start planning for a new fundraising and engagement campaign. This will support our ambitions to significantly scale our fundraising activity and to further enhance the impact of our work engaging with our world-wide alumni community.

Giving at the Principal Gift level (gifts of £5m and over) and from international communities is pivotal to delivering our ambitions to support the University’s strategy. The role of Associate Director of Philanthropy, Principal and International Giving is therefore a pivotal senior strategic role, tasked with developing and expanding our principal and transformational gift programme. This role will focus on significantly increasing high-value giving, with a particular ambition to increase eight-figure donations and set the groundwork for nine-figure gifts.

Working closely with senior leaders of the University, up to and including the Vice-Chancellor, this position is responsible for designing and implementing innovative fundraising strategies, managing a high-profile donor portfolio, maximising the opportunity from our Principal Gift pool and leading a team of dedicated professionals across both domestic and international fundraising initiatives. As well as driving the overall principal gifts programme across all fundraising teams, this role will also work closely with academics and colleagues internally to develop Principal Gift level gift propositions.

The role is pivotal in shaping King's strategic philanthropic vision, ensuring robust donor engagement, and driving transformational support that underpins the institution’s long-term goals.

This is considered as a full-time post (35 hours per week) and the successful candidate will be offered an indefinite contract.

P&A has a hybrid working approach, with a minimum of 40% of time in the office. Typically, this equates to two days per week, but we’re very happy for colleagues to be in more frequently if they so wish.
