Department of Forest Biomaterials and Technology
The Department of Forest Biomaterial and Technology (SBT ) at SLU consists of about fifty employees (of which approx. 3/4 are located in Umeå and approx. 1/4 are located in Uppsala) and four divisions (Forest Operations, Wood Science, Biomass Technology and Chemistry, as well as the BTC Biomass Technology Centre). The department currently has research with a focus on forest technology, logistics, wood science and technology, and technical biomaterial science.

Subject Area
The subject of the position is wood science and technology with a focus on wood chemistry.
Duties
The research will focus on chemical interactions between wood polymers and synthetic or natural substances used to manufacture and improve wood-based products.
Furthermore, the research is expected to focus on an increased understanding of the anatomical structures of wood, material properties, and how these are affected by various methods and processes applied in wood science and technology.
The holder of the position shall
- act in accordance with the vision, goals and basic values of SLU
- contribute to the strategic development of the department, the faculty and SLU
- develop and lead internationally successful research within the subject area
- publish scientific articles in international journals with peer-review
- apply for external funding in competition at national and international level
- supervise doctoral students and postdoctors
- lead, develop and participate in teaching and supervision of students at all levels
- collaborate with researchers within the department, faculty and other parts of SLU, as well as nationally and internationally
- collaborate and develop regional, national and international networks with the surrounding society
- disseminate research findings
- fulfil administrative tasks within the department, the faculty and the university
Non Swedish-speaking staff members are expected to, within four years of first being employed, have sufficient knowledge of Swedish/Scandinavian to understand information in Swedish. The department will support the holder to achieve this.
Qualifications
The applicant must:
- have a doctoral degree within a relevant subject or their equivalent scientific competence
- be scientifically skilled within the subject area for this appointment
- be pedagogically skilled
- have good knowledge of English
Assessment Criteria
Assessment criteria for appointment of a Senior Lecturer will primarily be based on the degree to which the applicant possesses the required qualifications specified for the position.
The assessment of scientific skills will consider:
- completed research activities and ongoing research within the subject
- ability to independently initiate, lead and develop innovative research
- ability to attract external research funding in competition
- ability to supervise and examine at doctoral level and supervise postdocs
The assessment of pedagogic skills will consider ability to:
- plan, conduct and evaluate their own teaching at all levels
- supervise and examine undergraduate, master level and graduate students
- convey and implement their pedagogical vision
- integrate current research and scientific approaches in teaching
The following will also be assessed:
- ability to manage, develop and lead academic units and staff
- ability to communicate and collaborate
- ability to interact with relevant stakeholders and society
- ability to disseminate information on research and development projects
The position will be offered to the person who, after a qualitative overall assessment, is assessed to be most suitable to carry out and develop the above-mentioned duties and to contribute to the positive development of the organization.
