Description of the workplace
The researcher position will be placed at the Environmental Psychology Research Group, Department of Architecture and Built Environment, Faculty of Engineering. Environmental Psychology conducts research, teaches and collaborates with a focus on the interaction between humans and the environment from the perspective of the individual. The research group comprises approximately 10 researchers and PhD students with diverse disciplinary backgrounds (e.g. psychology, architecture, engineering) and offers a supportive and multidisciplinary research environment. As a partner in the EU project, TRIGGER Solutions for mitigating climate-induced health threats, the research currently examines residents’ everyday experiences of climate change in relation to psychological health and motivation to engage in local environmental policy. Work duties
The researcher position involves work in externally funded transdisciplinary research projects in environmental psychology. The position in particular focuses upon psychological aspects of individuals’ everyday experiences of climate change, health and motivation. The research departs from theories of environmental experiences and restorativeness in nature as well as motivation and behavioral change strategies. The research findings have practical implications for understanding the role of the individual in achieving global sustainability goals.
The main duties involved is to conduct research. Teaching and supervision in the first, second and third cycles of studies may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours.
The work will include:
- Contributing with environmental psychology perspectives on environmental experiences and restorativeness in nature as well as motivation and behaviour change strategies in the international research team.
- Identification and integration of relevant environmental psychology theory in the transdisciplinary conceptual framework.
- Methodological development for an international survey.
- Data collection in five European cities
- Active collaboration within the transdisciplinary research team and the European research consortium
- Participation in monthly online project meetings
- Travel for data collection, conferences and project meetings within and outside Sweden.
- Collaboration with various stakeholders from industry and wider society.
- Participation in Environmental Psychology research group meetings and activities.
- Administration related to the work duties listed above
Qualifications
Required qualifications:
- a PhD in environmental psychology, psychology or equivalent research qualification within environmental psychology
- Documented knowledge of psychological theories on human-environment interactions
- Documented research experience within environmental psychology with a focus on environmental experience, motivation and behaviour change strategies in urban environments
- Documented experience with analyses of individual behaviour and environmental policy
- Documented experience of transdisciplinary research
- Documented experience with developing survey studies and data collection tools
- Documented skills in applying multivariate statistical analyses
- Documented ability to produce and publish high quality research output
- Documented ability to work in a team and collaborate with project partners
- Documented ability to advance scientific project work
- Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
Additional requirements:
- Experience of literature reviews
- Experience of analyzing environmental psychology questionnaires to assess environmental experiences
- Experience of combining data on environmental experience with environmental and psychological health-related data
- Experience within EU projects and/or large research consortium
- Good oral and written proficiency in Swedish for methodological development, data analysis and research communication in a Swedish context.

Further information
The position is a special fixed-term employment for 12 months at 30% per cent of full time, starting 2025-07-01 or as agreed. This position is not a teacher position and the flex time agreement for technical and administrative staff is applicable. A researcher who wishes to become a university teacher may apply for a position as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in open competition.
