Offer Description

Do you want to contribute to top-quality medical research?

CRISPR Functional Genomics (CFG) is a core facility at Karolinska Institutet and a national SciLifeLab infrastructure. Operating within the SciLifeLab platform “Chemical Biology and Genome Engineering”, CFG's mission is to support the Swedish research community in designing, executing, and interpreting large-scale CRISPR-based functional genomic screens and precision gene-editing experiments.

Your mission

You will join a small, dynamic team as a Research Infrastructure Specialist. Your primary task will be to design and execute CRISPR-Cas projects in collaboration with facility clients. This includes performing precision gene editing in cell lines and conducting massively parallel genetic perturbations in a pooled format (pooled CRISPR screens). You will contribute to the development and implementation of cutting-edge CRISPR-based technologies and apply them in close partnership with clients. While your main focus will be on planning, designing, executing, and reporting experimental lab work, you will also support the management and operations of the unit.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Infrastructure Specialist at CFG, the applicant must:

  • Hold a doctorate in a related field
  • Possess technological and methodological expertise in relevant areas
  • Be proficient in standard mammalian cell culture techniques
  • Be fluent in English, both spoken and written

Assessment criteria

The assessment criteria form part of the overall evaluation of the applicant’s qualifications. All criteria will be considered, but they should not individually be seen as strict requirements.

  • Experience with viral delivery tools, molecular cloning techniques, flow cytometry (including cell sorting), next-generation sequencing
  • Expertise in bioinformatics, including analysis of complex datasets and statistical methods
  • Ability to demonstrate independent scientific thinking
  • Strong enthusiasm for laboratory work
  • Interest in creative method development and technical innovation
  • A service-oriented mindset, with a primary focus on delivering high-quality datasets
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects in parallel, maintain meticulous documentation, and efficiently coordinate projects
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.

What do we offer?

Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities. As part of the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, CFG offers a collaborative, dynamic, and friendly work environment housed in one of Europe’s most modern research facilities. Our clients’ projects span diverse areas of molecular cell biology, from basic cell biology and molecular medicine (cancer, neurodegenerative disease, infectious disease) to model organisms such as fish and insects.

CFG actively encourages personal and professional growth through access to courses and conferences. If you thrive in an academic environment, excel in laboratory work, but prefer to avoid publication pressure, CFG is the right fit for you.

This position is initially limited to one year. After this period, it is anticipated that the role will be advertised as a permanent position, for which the current holder is encouraged to apply.
