The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 56 000 students and 6 600 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
We are looking for a postdoc working on spectral theory of differential operators. The position is a full-time temporary employment for two years, funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation.
You will join the dynamic research environment at the division of analysis and probability. Our research group in spectral theory and PDEs is steadily growing and has strong ties to the international research community. We value our open, supporting and inspiring atmosphere with regular activities throughout the academic year.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg has about 200 employees and is the largest department of mathematics in Sweden. We have an international environment with frequent exchanges with other universities around the world. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all our activities. We work actively to be a parent-friendly organization.
Subject area
Spectral Theory of Differential Operators
Subject area description
The candidate will develop quantitative methods in semiclassical spectral theory, particularly in the setting of Schrödinger operators satisfying mild regularity assumptions. Connections and applications to sharp spectral inequalities and spectral optimization problems will also be explored.
Job assignments
You will conduct research in the group of Associate senior lecturer Simon Larson. You are expected to independently develop new ideas in this collaboration.
If the candidate is interested, at most 20% of the time can be spent on teaching and supervision.
Eligibility
To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree or a degree that is deemed to be equivalent. This requirement must be met before the employment decision is made.
In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. This can be extended if special grounds exist, such as absence due to illness, parental leave, commissions of trust within labor unions, military service or other similar circumstances
Assessment criteria
The assessment of your application will be based mainly on your scientific skills, and in particular skills relevant to the project as described above.
Knowledge of spectral theory of differential operators and functional analysis in Sobolev spaces is required. On a personal level you should be highly motivated and independent. Your ability to collaborate and to communicate in English will be considered in the assessment.
