Offer Description

The functions to be carried out within the CM/DEMG/2024-019 project are: 
1 Selection of plots using Geographical Information Systems.
2 Field sampling: vegetation and soils; water depth of woody species; functional traits.
3 Processing of field samples: homogenisation of soils; weighing of soils, leaf litter, bark, branches and roots; obtaining data on various leaf traits (leaf specific area, dry matter content, N and C), wood traits (density) and grinding of leaves to obtain isotopic data 
4 Statistical analysis: calculation of carbon storage in different compartments, isotope analysis; calculation of functional diversity; linear mixed models.
5 Outreach activities: participation in outreach conferences, writing outreach articles, social networking, among others.

Director: Elena Granda Fernández. Life Sciences Dept.  Gross monthly salary: 2991.73.83 € (from this amount will be deducted the employer's contribution and the days for compensation).

Other merits

A PhD in Environmental Sciences or Biology with knowledge of the various techniques to be used for the PROGRESA project (CM/DEMG/2024-019) is required. These include:

1 Sampling and isotope analysis of soil water and xylem.
2 Forest structure sampling
3 Sampling and processing of soils and necromass for analysis of carbon storage
4 Sampling, data collection in the TRY database and processing of functional traits of foliar, wood and water variables of woody plants
5 Functional diversity and functional space analysis
6 Use of Geographic Information Systems

It is necessary to have (1) driving licence B, (2) availability to work in the field for long days and several days in a row which may include weekends (compensated during the rest of the year), (3) ability to work in the laboratory processing field samples, (4) ability to work in a team, (5) ability to organise sampling and work independently, (6) experience in R programming and statistical analysis.
