Offer Description
RESEARCH LINE: Analysis and modeling of nitrogen flows in Mediterranean agricultural systems with special emphasis on irrigation systems, as well as their connection with the agricultural and agri-food system.
TASKS: a) Modeling and spatialization of nitrogen balances in Mediterranean cropping systems (mainly irrigated); b) Upscaling at the regional level and in connection with livestock and agri-food systems; c) Estimates of emissions of the main reactive nitrogen compounds, as well as essential agri-environmental indicators; d) Development of alternative management scenarios.

Skills/Qualifications
Demonstrable solid experience in:
- Handling large volumes of data
- Efficient programming in R or Python, particularly in data handling (e.g. Tydiverse package or data.table in R) and in spatialization (e.g. ggplot, sf, raster).
- Data analysis and curation
- Application of nitrogen, nutrient, crop or agricultural systems modeling tools (e.g. DSSAT, DNDC, Daycent, SWAT, RiverStrahler,
- GIS map handling (e.g. QGIS, spatialized R)
- Knowledge of Mediterranean agricultural systems
Specific Requirements
- University degree: Agro-environmental, Agricultural, Hydraulic Engineering or similar. Degree in Agro-environmental Sciences, Biology, Environmental Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences or Computer Science.
- Master's degree in Agro-environmental Technology for Sustainable Agriculture or similar.
- Experience in research projects.
- High level of English, spoken and written.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Possibility of obtaining a residence/work permit within a maximum period of one month.
- Although not essential, a PhD in the agri-environmental field will be very positevely valued.

The selected candidate will join the research team and will participate in the research, training and knowledge transfer activities carried out at CEIGRAM. CEIGRAM, the Centre for the Study and Research of Agricultural and Environmental Risk Management, is one of the 19 research centres of the Technical University of Madrid. CEIGRAM is a center of reference and knowledge generation for research and development of methodologies that provide answers to the growing concern for risk management strategies, including production, market and environmental risks, faced by the agricultural sector. The person hired will benefit from the training activities organized for all researchers and the management team. The orientation will be applied research, promoting the publication of research papers in scientific journals and at international conferences. The researcher will contribute to and benefit from international research networks to which the Principal Investigators of the project contribute, providing a great opportunity for their research and professional profile.
Eligibility criteria
SELECTION CRITERIA: 1ST EVALUATION ROUND: Maximum possible percentage of the total sum of evaluation A+B+C+D+E+F/30: A) Training (0: does not meet / 5: meets all); B) Programming skills (0: does not meet / 5: meets all requirements); C) GIS skills (0: does not meet / 5: meets all ); D) Modeling of agricultural systems (0: does not meet/5: meets all); E) Specific requirements: languages, experience, other aspects to be assessed (0: does not meet/5: meets all); F) Suitability for functions, line of research and tasks = Average of the assigned rating of 0-5 in degree of relationship between the CV and the profile sought.
Supporting documentation of merits may be requested. Candidates who obtain more than 90% of the maximum score may be invited to participate in the 2nd EVALUATION ROUND: INTERVIEW.
