Offer Description

IRTA is currently seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Researcher with a knowledge and formation related to Applied Pathology to join the Sustainable Plant Protection Program. We invite applications from ambitious candidates with relevant research experience and passion to conduct research and innovation activities on the implementation of Integrated disease management programs with a deep knowledge on the epidemiology and management of plant diseases affecting field crops and fruit tree crops, accordingly with the main research lines of the Sustainable Plant Protection program and of the Field Crops program. The appointed candidate will lead research of excellence to boost advances in this area of knowledge.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Initiate, supervise and/or lead internal and external research and innovation projects in a proactive manner.
  • Lead and actively contribute to fundraising through the preparation and submission of project proposals for competitive public calls and for contracts with the private sector, as well reporting process, such as writing progress and final reports of research activities.
  • Supervise and contribute to the design, implementation and analysis of experiments and field tests, and their subsequent reporting.
  • Be up to date with the state-of-the-art so to continuously transfer scientific knowledge to stakeholders and end-users.
  • Participate in positioning the Sustainable Plant Protection Program as a group of excellence through regular peer-reviewed publications, contributions at national and international congresses and supervision of PhD and postdoctoral researchers.
  • Collaborate with teamwork and team-spirit in the Sustainable Plant Protection Program, fostering collaboration and integration activities.
  • Work in close collaboration with other teams of IRTA, as well as with external academic, institutional and industrial partners.

 Required qualifications and experience:

  • Ph.D. in Agronomy or Biology with proven practical experience in Plant Pathology.
  • Experience in field crops and fruit tree diseases.
  • Proven experience in project management, with good organizational and coordination skills.
  • Proven research skills: experience on project proposal writing, literature review, experimental design and implementation, data analysis, scientific article writing.
  • Proven dissemination skills: presentation/communication skills, and technical writing.
  • Proven capacity to successfully develop collaborative research links with national and international research organizations, and the ability to interact closely with private companies.

 Desirable requirements:

  • Full driving license for Europe and travelling availability.
  • Good communicative skills and client-oriented thinking and working.
  • Motivated and willing to take on new challenges. 
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills. 
  • Capability and ability to learn and successfully work within multidisciplinary teams. 
  • Willingness to organise and share information. Proactive in suggesting improvements. 

 Languages:

  • Proficiency in English.
  • Catalan and Spanish are valued.
