Offer Description
Excellence Unit iBRAINS-IN-CyL
The Excellence Unit iBRAINS-IN-CyL was established as a strategic initiative to strengthen neuroscience research in Castilla y León, fostering scientific excellence, innovation, and knowledge transfer in brain studies. This unit is part of the Institute of Neuroscience of Castilla y León (INCyL) , based at the University of Salamanca (USAL) —one of the oldest universities in Europe, with a renowned tradition of academic excellence and cutting-edge research.
iBRAINS-IN-CyL aims to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neurological diseases, facilitating the development of new therapies and diagnostic tools. With an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach, the unit promotes the integration of various research lines, establishing synergies with national and international groups to advance knowledge of the nervous system and its capacity for repair and neuronal plasticity.
Job Offer: Research Support Technician
The Scientific Programme 5 of the iBRAINS-INCyL project, entitled "Neuronal Plasticity and Neurorepair: from lifestyle to in vitro system", investigates the role of microglia in hippocampal neurogenesis. To achieve this, multiple experiments are conducted in parallel, including collaborations with other programmes and research groups.
The position involves obtaining, processing, and analysing biological samples that are essential for the project's progress. These samples are highly valuable and, in many cases, irreplaceable, resulting from the work of our team and collaborations with national and international groups. For this reason, it is essential to incorporate a specialised research support technician to ensure the proper development of experiments throughout their duration.
Key Responsibilities
- Genotyping of experimental animals.
- Cell cultures of neurospheres and microglia.
- Preparation of brain sections using various tomographic techniques.
- Application of immunofluorescence techniques in cell cultures and brain sections.
- Imaging using conventional epifluorescence, confocal, and structured illumination microscopy.
- Image analysis using ImageJ and DeepLearning-based tools.
- Drafting protocols and maintaining databases.
Job Conditions
- Working hours: 35 hours per week.
- Work environment: Dynamic and collaborative, within a research excellence setting.
- Gross salary: €2,109.93 per month.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Degree:
A Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences-related disciplines such as Biology, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Medicine, Biomedicine, or related fields.
Desirable skills & experience:
Experience in cell culture, immunohistochemical techniques, genotyping, microscopy, and image analysis.
The application period opens on 5th March and closes on 13th March. Candidates must submit their applications through the Notice Board (Tablón de anuncios) in the Electronic Office (Sede Electrónica) of the University of Salamanca.
