The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Associate on a 12-month contract at the Psychology and Child & Human Development Department.

Project Title: Enhancing Literacy Outcomes for Students with Autism: A Pilot Study of the READ-ASD Program in Singapore [SRF 14/24 NL]

Project Introduction: This project is a research initiative focused on improving reading comprehension outcomes for students with ASD in Singapore through a structured, evidence-based Tier 3 intervention. The project aims to evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of the READ-ASD intervention in Singapore. This study contributes to culturally responsive literacy practices for children with ASD and supports equitable access to high-quality instruction.

Requirements:

  • A Master’s degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education, Applied Behavior Analysis, Speech and Language Therapy, or a related field
  • Experience working with children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), preferably in educational or intervention settings
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a research team
  • Familiarity with basic qualitative and single-case design research methods
  • Prior research experience and knowledge of reading interventions or applied behavioral analytic approaches is an advantage

Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of the READ-ASD intervention in the participating school
  • Conduct data collection, including direct observations, interviews, and assessments
  • Assist in the recruitment and coordination of participants (students, educators, caregivers)
  • Support transcription, coding, and preliminary analysis of data
  • Maintain accurate documentation and manage project records in accordance with research ethics requirements
  • Contribute to literature reviews, preparation of reports, and dissemination activities (e.g., presentations, manuscripts)
  • Other research tasks assigned by the PI
