The School of Biological Sciences (SBS), part of the College of Science, was established in 2002 with a mission to advance biological and biomedical sciences. We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant (RA) to join our team in the field of synthetic biology and enzyme design. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research focused on developing novel biocatalysts and synthetic pathways. The ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in biochemistry or biology and a passion for scientific research.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the design and construction of synthetic biological systems and enzyme engineering projects.
Perform molecular cloning experiments, including DNA manipulation, PCR, and gel electrophoresis.
Support protein expression, purification, and characterization using standard biochemical techniques.
Maintain cell cultures, troubleshoot experimental procedures, and ensure smooth lab operations.
Analyze experimental data, maintain detailed records, and collaborate with team members to optimize research protocols.
Job Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
Basic knowledge of molecular cloning, protein expression, and purification (preferred but not required).
Experience with PCR, gel electrophoresis, and DNA sequencing is advantageous.
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Familiarity with enzyme assays, protein characterization methods (e.g., spectrophotometry, HPLC, SDS-PAGE), bacterial/yeast transformation, or synthetic biology tools is a plus.
