Offer Description
A tender is open for the attribution of one Research Fellowship within the scope of the R&D project “CATTLE IN MOTION: Knowledge, circulation and environments in the history of cattle in Portugal, 1750-1960” (2023.12421.PEX) funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P./MCTES through national funds (PIDDAC/OE), under the following conditions:
Scientific Area: Social Sciences and Humanities – History
Recipients’ profile/category: Applicants to this call may be national, foreign or stateless candidates that are MA holders, with an academic curriculum whose profile is suitable for the activity to be carried out.
Mandatory requirements: A MA degree in History, Agricultural History, Environmental History, Rural History, History of Science and Technology, Urban History, Economic and Social Geography, or in a similar scientific area, registered and/or recognized in Portugal, with a scientific and professional curriculum whose profile is suitable for the activity to be carried out.
Proficiency in Portuguese.
The selected candidate must, at the moment of the contracting process, be enrolled either in a doctorate, or in a course that does not confer an academic degree, integrated in an educational project of a Higher Education Institution. This requirement is not a factor for exclusion at the application stage.
Preferred factors: interest in and knowledge about Portuguese rural history; experience in archival research; proven written and oral communication skills; ability to work in a team; capacity for interdisciplinary dialogue; experience in organizing scientific events; proficiency in English.
Work Plan: The fellow will carry out research and support the various tasks and objectives of the CATTLE IN MOTION project, namely through: participation in a literature review; information gathering in archives; creation of databases with historical sources; organization of scientific events; creation and maintenance of the project's website; participation in the writing of scientific papers.
The fellow will work in coordination with the rest of the team.
Applicable legislation and regulations: Law No. 40/2004, of August 18, amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of August 27 (Statute of the Scientific Research Fellow) and amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of October 29, by Law No. 12 /2013 of 29 January, by Decree-Law No. 89/2013, of 9 July and Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of 28 August; Regulation of Research Grants of NOVA University Lisbon, Despacho n.º 9484/2023, of 14 September; Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. in force (https://dre.pt/application/conteudo/127238533 ).
Monthly maintenance allowance amount: According to the regulations of the FCT Scientific Fellowships in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Tabela_valores_SMM_2025.pdf ) the net salary will be of 1 309,64 EUR/month, which will be paid monthly by bank transfer.
Fellowship holders are entitled to social security in accordance with Decree-Law No. 40/89, of February 1, by joining the voluntary social insurance scheme, pursuant to article 10 of the Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação (EBI, https://dre.pt/dre/legislacao-consolidada/lei/2004-58216179-58244491 ).
NOVA FCT will assume the charges resulting from the contributions that fall on the first of the levels referred to in article 180 of the Code of Contribution Regimes of the Social Security Social Security System.
The two criteria for selecting the fellow are the following:
a. Evaluation of the curriculum vitae (score between 1 and 20) (50%);
b. Experience in the field of research (score between 1 and 20) (50%).
The jury may choose to interview the three highest ranked applicants, provided they have the minimum score of 15. If the jury decides to carry out interviews, the criteria for selecting the fellow will instead be:
a. Evaluation of the curriculum vitae and experience in the field of research (score between 1 and 20) (50%);
b. Interview (score between 1 and 20) (50%).
All applications will be evaluated on a scale of 0 to 20. The applicants that fail to obtain the minimum score of 15, after the evaluation by the jury according to the selection criteria, will not be hired.
Form of advertising/notification of results:
The provisional results will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications, by email, to all the applicants. Applicants will have access to the minutes of the meetings of the jury and to the provisional ranking list.
After being notified, applicants will have 10 working days to comment on the draft decision (prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure). The final decision will be taken after the expiry of the prior hearing period, again notified to all applicants by e-mail.
The final results of the evaluation will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications, by email, to all the applicants. Applicants will have access to the minutes of the meetings of the jury and to the provisional ranking list and will be shared with all applicants by e-mail. Applicants have the right to contest this decision within 15 working days (by emailing the e-mail address used for the notification), or the right an hierarchical appeal, within 30 working days, addressed to the highest body of the funding entity.
