Public Notice - International Selection Procedure
Recruitment of a Research Assistant with a Master Degree (employment contract)

FCiências.ID - Associação para a Investigação e Desenvolvimento de Ciências, through its President of the Administration Board, hereby announces the opening of an international call for the recruitment of a Research Assistant with a MSc Degree, of the FCiências.ID Scientific Research Career, within the scope of the project HOFGA: The Hardness of Finding Good Algorithms (Ref. HORIZON-ERC-STG-101041696), financed by the European Union's Horizon Europe – research and innovation programme under the Grant Agreement nº 101041696, in the form of a(n) full-time indefinite duration fixed-term employment contract , on an exclusive regime, according to the Portuguese Labour Code and complementary legislation.
I. Admission Requirements
Portuguese nationals, foreign and stateless persons may submit applications to this selection procedure, with a MSc degree* in Mathematics, Computer Science, or similar areas, have specialised skills and/or expertise in the field of Computational Complexity, and fully comply with the following requirements:
* Please note that Degrees obtained in foreign countries need a Portuguese Recognition issued by a Portuguese high degree Institution, according to the Decree-Law nr. 66/2018 , of August 16th and the Ministerial Order nr. 33/2019 , of January 25th. The work plan to be executed includes the following tasks:
1) Overview of the state of the art in meta-complexity, or another chosen topic in Computational Complexity.
2) Participation in two or more of the ongoing research topics of the PI (Bruno Loff), as part of the research project HoFGA.
V. Composition of the Jury
The members of the jury are:
- President – Carlos Florentino;
- 1st Member of the jury – Bruno Serra Loff Barreto;
- 2nd Member of the jury – Florian Pausinger;
- 1st Alternate Member of the jury – Fernando Ferreira;
- 2nd Alternate Member of the jury – Mario Edmundo.
VI. Place of work
Work will be developed at the facilities of Research Center CEMS.UL – Center for Mathematical Studies, Ciências ULisboa, in Campo Grande, Lisboa, Portugal.
VII. Contract Duration
The full-time indefinite duration fixed-term employment contract , on an exclusive regime, is expected to start in March 2025, and will last until the Work Plan referred to in section IV is completed. It will have an expected duration of 12 months, will not exceed the limits set in the RCD.
VIII. Monthly Allowance
The gross monthly salary corresponds to 2.134,69 Euros , on an exclusive regime , which complies with one of the Levels of the Salary Table (NTS) for a Research Assistant, in step 4 level 29, equivalent to the same level of the Single Remuneratory Table, as approved by Government Order No. 1553-C/2008, of December 31st, in its current version, on which legal discounts will apply, plus holiday and Christmas allowances, as well as food allowance in the amount and conditions set out for workers with a legal employment relationship under the Labour Code.

- Grades during the MSc – 30%;
- Scientific publications in the area - 30%;
- Letter of motivation - 20%;
- Assessment of the reference letter(s) - 20%.

- Detailed curriculum vitae in PDF format (written in English) - mandatory;
- A motivation letter clearly demonstrating that the candidate has an adequate profile for the position and fully complies with the Admission Requirements- mandatory;
- Up to five publications relevant for the objectives of the Work Plan - mandatory;
- Reference letter(s) (maximum 1) - mandatory;
- Transcript of course grades during MSc and the final grade of the MSc dissertation - mandatory;
- Digital copies of documents proving formal academic degrees required in the call and/or other scientific and professional qualifications - original documents must be provided in case of actual recruitment - mandatory;
- Other documents that candidates consider relevant for the assessment of their scientific merit, or to declare the personal situation in the cases covered in section XI-2 of this Notice - optional.
