The NOVA Institute for Medical Systems Biology (NIMSB) is a new research institute funded by the European Union within the Horizon Europe Teaming for Excellence action. NIMSB is a partnership between the NOVA University Lisbon, Portugal, and the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) in Berlin, Germany.
NIMSB strives to become a leader in the development, integration, and application of state-of-the-art approaches in Medical Systems Biology to advance biomedical research and precision medicine in Lisbon and Portugal. The NIMSB mission is to accelerate innovation based on the understanding of human biology and mechanisms of disease to enable earlier disease detection, novel diagnostics and advanced therapeutic solutions. NIMSB research and innovation programme will initially focus on single-cell and spatial multi-omics analyses of human samples, computational approaches based on machine learning, and the development and implementation of human-derived microphysiological experimental models (organoids and organ-on-a-chip). Within the scope of the European Commission’s Teaming for Excellence action, NIMSB has an ambitious 6-year plan to develop its research activities, which include establishing advanced technology platforms to empower NIMSB researchers and drive forward groundbreaking discoveries.
NIMSB is seeking to hire three visionary Technology Platform Leaders in the areas of Single-Cell & Spatial Transcriptomics, Data Science, and Proteomics/Metabolomics, to pioneer cutting-edge research infrastructures focused on service, research and development. The selected candidates will work closely with other NIMSB principal investigators and technology platform leaders to develop, establish and provide seamless workflows in state-of-the-art methods and technologies for the NIMSB scientific community and its partners, benefitting from extensive networking opportunities in Portugal and abroad, including the MDC.
Additionally, there will be the possibility to develop one's own research line, in alignment with NIMSB's interests. This is an exciting opportunity for ambitious technology-focused/orientated scientists who wish to contribute to the translation of breakthrough technologies into revolutionary scientific discoveries.
