The position
The Norwegian College of Fishery Science at the Faculty of Bioscience, Fisheries and Economics seeks a motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Research Group in Fish immunology and vaccinology.
The successful Postdoctoral Research Fellow will become a member of an international research team focusing on
basic molecular mechanisms of innate and adaptive immune systems of fish. In particular we focus on Atlantic salmon as this species is of outmost importance to the aquaculture industry. Our objective is to contribute to a deeper understanding of the immune system of teleost and aid in the development of new vaccines targeting diseases that impact fish in aquaculture. The particular position will focus on the cell mediated are of the immune response, investigating the responses of both conventional and unconventional T cell responses using TCR repertoire analysis.
The position is a fixed term position for a duration of 3 years. Appointment to the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow is mainly intended to provide qualification for work in top academic positions. It is a prerequisite that the applicant is able to carry out the project over the full course of the employment period. No person may hold more than one fixed-term position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the same institution.
The appointed Postdoctoral Research Fellow must have its daily workplace at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, Tromsø. You must be able to start in the position within a reasonable time after receiving the offer.
The project/position's field of research
This position will focus on developing ways to monitor and characterize conventional and unconventional T cell responses in fish by analyzing TR repertoire sequence data from healthy and virally infected Atlantic salmon.
Deep sequencing of TR repertoires has opened up the possibility of understanding the cell mediated immune response at a molecular level. This project will generate new libraries and analyze existing TR repertoire data to compare processes of clonal expansion and affinity maturation in primary and secondary immune responses in healthy and virally infected Atlantic salmon. This work represents a collaboration with experimental colleagues at the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (INRAE, France) and Universidad de Vigo (Spain).
