Job description
The University of Stavanger has two permanent positions available as Associate Professor/Researcher in Educational Science at the Faculty of Education and Humanities, Knowledge Centre for Education (KSU). The positions are available from June 1st 2025.
The field of the position is Educational Science with an emphasis on systematic reviews.
KSU (Knowledge Centre for Education) aims to compile and disseminate national and international research in the field of education, work systematically to further develop the genre of systematic reviews, and contribute to increased competence in compiling and summarizing research results and increased use of research in collaboration with Norwegian researchers and international actors in the field. It is expected that those appointed are open to working on systematic reviews in multiple areas. The work is project-based and requires good collaboration skills.
Additionally, the center will identify areas in need of more knowledge and communicate this to authorities and research environments, and create meeting places for educational research for researchers, practitioners and authorities.
The hired candidate may have a specialized field, but must be open to presenting knowledge summaries within various topics that are relevant to the entire education sector (from kindergarten to higher education and lifelong learning), and contribute to KSU working strategically with their goals.
The dissemination is tailored to the center's various target groups within policy development, administration, research, training, and teaching. KSU is committed to developing new forms of dissemination, and researchers employed at the center will also actively engage in research communication and contribute to the development of dissemination methods.

Qualification requirements
We are seeking Associate Professors or Researchers with a PhD or equivalent competence in educational science, and who have a strong interest in leading and assisting in the development of knowledge overviews within educational research.
It is an advantage if you have experience with systematic reviewing, a work that requires you to be computer literate and accurate and have good insight into quality assessments of research.
You must be able to document active and ongoing research and have the potential for future high-level research within the field.We put emphasis on the quality, relevance and significance of the research work and not on where the work is published, in accordance with the principles of The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA).
Norwegian is the language mainly used at UiS. The working and teaching languages are Norwegian and English. It is expected that you can teach and supervise in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language (equivalent to level B2), within a period of three years from accession. If required, you will be offered a Norwegian course paid for by the university.
As an Associate Professor, you must also be able to document pedagogical and didactic skills relating to higher education, and basic skills in planning, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision. If you do not meet the competence requirement you must complete a university pedagogy course within a period of two years of the appointment start date. The course will be provided by the university.

- knowledge about the Norwegian education system
- experience from collaborations with stakeholders (education sector, government etc.)
- research results published in recognised publications, references indicating progression in research and publications and that you are motivated to promote open research and the intrinsic value of research (Open Science).
- ability to initiate, obtain external funding for, lead and carry out research and development projects
- experience of partnerships with businesses relevant to the subject area
- contributed to the use of research-based knowledge in society and that you can refer to results from innovation and the commercialization of research
- demonstrated the ability to build and preserve professional networks - regionally, nationally and internationally
- ability to manage heavy workload, inquisitiveness and motivation to contribute to the development of academic and interdisciplinary collaboration at the university
- good teamwork and communication skills, and ability to contribute to a constructive working environment

The Faculty of Arts and Education is the region’s most important institution for educating teachers for kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, upper secondary schools and higher education. The Faculty has three national centres: The National Centre for Reading Education and Research (the Reading Centre), the National Centre for Learning Environment and Behavioural Research (The Learning Environment Centre) and the Knowledge Centre for Education (KSU), as well as the Filiorum Centre for Early Childhood Research. The Faculty collaborates with the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training and local government authorities in respect of further and continuing education.
