The Department of Biochemistry is at the forefront of research and innovation in a diverse range of fields. We use basic, curiosity-driven research to understand the underlying processes behind life. Our goals are to enhance the well-being and quality of life of New Zealanders, improve the diagnosis and treatment of disease, and develop technology in agriculture and other industries.

Genomics Aotearoa (GA) is a consortium of ten Universities and Crown Research Institutes, with funding from the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment to deliver national capability in genomics and bioinformatics. GA is hosted by the University of Otago, and its management team is based in the Department of Biochemistry.

The role/Te mahi

As a Bioinformatics Trainer, you will be an enthusiastic and talented individual who will assist with the coordination and delivery of Genomics Aotearoa’s bioinformatics training programme.

This role provides an exciting opportunity, working with an outstanding national team, to develop and deliver advanced bioinformatics and data science training material for genomic scientists.

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

Successful applicants will have:
•    MSc or PhD degree in statistics, bioinformatics or genomics.  
•    Prior experience in the use of statistical and bioinformatics methods in the analysis of genomic data.
•    Experience in the delivery of training material to non-specialist end-users.

This is a full-time (1.0FTE), fixed term position from 12 May 2025 until 30 June 2030.

The salary range for this position is $94,084 to $111,056 per annum.
