The Future Fibres Laboratory at the School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences at Auckland University of Technology is seeking to appoint two fixed term postdoctoral fellows to contribute primarily to research in the area of sustainable advanced bio-based functional nanomaterials. The Future Fibres Laboratory is a research and industry development platform for interdisciplinary research focusing on materials functionalisation, processing of bio-based fibres and product development to promote sustainability.

The start date will be 24 June 2025 or by negotiation.

You will hold a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, or similar discipline, with a sound track record in research-based publications in academic and professional journals. Preference will be given to those with strong research interests in the areas of bioderived materials, cellulose, energy storage and biomedical sensory materials, nanofibre manufacturing and characterisation. You will play a key role on research projects in the area of functionalisation of cellulose based materials, sustainable energy, smart packaging solutions, and biomedical applications.

Your research will investigate developing functional cellulose-based nanomaterials, optimising the processing technology to obtain targeted properties (physical, chemical and mechanical), and characterising the relationship between the materials performance and nano/microstructure. You will play an active role in the supervision of PhD and research students, contribute to and lead publication of scientifically interesting outcomes, work with industry for technology and product development and generate high quality publications.

Salary Range:  $80,000 - $112,000 (appointment level and salary commensurate with skills and experience)
