Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
The Auckland Centre for Financial Research (ACFR) invites applications for a Research Fellow fixed-term two-year position to contribute to advancing empirical financial research and increasing research output and impact. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will work closely with the Centre's Director, Dr Olga Dodd, to develop and execute high-impact research projects, publish in leading journals, and foster meaningful industry and academic partnerships. This role is pivotal in supporting the ACFR's mission to conduct world-class research and produce high-quality publications. In addition to research, you will contribute to the Centre's activities, such as conferences and industry events. You will also have a light teaching load at the Department of Economics and Finance.

The ideal candidate will have:
- Qualifications: A PhD in Finance, with research topics closely aligned with the ACFR's expertise in empirical finance and related fields.
- Research excellence: Demonstrated potential to publish in high-quality journals and produce impactful research that advances knowledge and informs practice.
- Skills and attributes: Strong quantitative research expertise, with proficiency in advanced tools such as Python, machine learning, and AI being highly desirable. Excellent writing skills and the ability to effectively communicate and translate complex concepts for both academic and non-academic audiences.
- Research collaboration and leadership: A proactive approach to fostering research collaborations, both internally and externally, with a strong capacity to effectively manage projects and drive new and ongoing research initiatives.
- Teaching: Demonstrated aptitude for teaching finance courses, with the ability to engage effectively in diverse, multicultural class settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and contribute to high-quality empirical finance research projects.
- Publish impactful research in well-ranked journals in collaboration with the members of ACFR.
- Assist with organising and delivering ACFR activities, such as conferences and workshops.
- Apply for external and internal research grants and consultancy projects.
- Engage with industry practitioners to support knowledge dissemination and foster dialogue on current issues in financial research and practice.
- Contribute to teaching within the Department of Economics and Finance as required.
Salary Range: $80,000 - $112,000 (appointment level and salary commensurate with skills and experience)
