Applications are invited for a specified purpose post of a Research Fellow within UCD School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering.
The goal of the National Space Subsystems and Payloads Initiative [NSSPI] is to accelerate the development of space technology through cooperation, expertise and research, and become a recognised centre of space excellence in Ireland. In support of this goal, a platform to accelerate and de-risk the integration of technologies developed by the consortium within a spacecraft is being developed. This will encompass the development and performance testing of spacecraft system, payload, and mission simulation tools, in partnership with consortium SMEs.
This position will be responsible for overseeing the development of spacecraft system, payload and mission modelling and simulation tools. The goal is to design and build a platform to accelerate and de-risk the integration of new technologies within a spacecraft. They will also be responsible for the design and breadboarding of an optical communications terminal compatible with CubeSat and form factor and power requirements. They will develop and test a control system which will allow for pointing requirements of the optical terminal to be achieved by body pointing the spacecraft.
Fixed Salary: €63,958 per annum
