Applications are invited for an Ad Astra Lecturer/Assistant Professor (above the bar) role in Sustainable Construction within the School of Civil Engineering at University College Dublin (UCD). The School of Civil Engineering is a research-driven school with a clear focus on delivering excellent research and education and a willingness to engage in university and professional life. It is an internationally recognised centre for excellence for its research and teaching, ranked in the global top 150 for `Civil and Structural Engineering' (QS Global Rankings), ranking number 1 in Ireland. The School is part of the UCD College of Engineering and Architecture, which was recently awarded a renewal of Athena SWAN bronze award, for its shared commitment to ensuring that faculty, staff and students experience an equal, diverse and inclusive environment.
The School has world-leading researchers in its two research centres, the Centre for Critical Infrastructure Research (CCIR), and the Dooge Centre for Water Resources Research (CWRR). The successful candidate will join and take a leadership role in the CCIR, a multi-disciplinary research centre that seeks to address key issues on how society manages its infrastructural assets. Through their research excellence and collaborative networks, the successful candidate will have opportunities to develop large-scale national and international funding proposals that will advance the Sustainable Construction research agenda in the School, in areas that include, but are not limited to, low carbon construction, offsite manufacturing, modern methods of construction, additive manufacturing, digitisation in construction and robotics. The construction sector remains a critical element of the national economy in Ireland and is central to implementing the €65bn National Development Plan. The importance of decarbonising the construction sector is specifically identified in the Climate Action Plan, and through Construct Innovate, Ireland's National Centre for Construction Technology and Innovation, the successful applicant will have opportunities to support policy development in this area.
The School offers professionally accredited programmes in Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering with Architecture. It also offers MEngSc programmes in Structural Engineering and Water, Waste & Environmental Engineering. In addition to developing their research portfolio, the successful candidate will contribute to Teaching and Curriculum Development through the design and delivery of innovative undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Sustainable Construction and related topics, including experiential learning through field and lab work, and through collaboration with stakeholders. The appointed candidate will also be provided with mentorship from the School faculty, to support their academic development.
95 Lecturer/Asst Professor Above the Bar (7943) Salary Scale: €62,855 - €99,533 Per Annum
Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
