Job description:

DESY

The DESY group "Information Technology" (IT) is participating in a variety of high profile national and European projects, evaluating new and innovative IT technologies. One of DESY's key initiatives, in close collaboration with partners from the Helmholtz Alliance, is to establish a platform that enables industry to transform the complex challenges posed by the rapidly evolving AI landscape into opportunities for advancing efficiency and quality in scientific research. To achieve this, DESY is establishing a dedicated team of AI and infrastructure experts, spanning the entire spectrum from the theoretical foundations of AI to the practical implementation of solutions on large-scale infrastructures. While all team members are expected to have a broad understanding of the entire technology stack, this position will primarily focus on optimising GPU utilisation for AI and molecular dynamics applications.

About your role:

  • Work closely with our industry partners on a high-performance computing (HPC) project for drug development
  • Collaborate with AI engineers, IT specialists, and domain scientists to drive innovation
  • Optimise GPU utilisation for Al and molecular dynamics applications
  • Contribute to the design of scalable and efficient AI-driven solutions
  • Support users in leveraging the DESY HPC infrastructure
  • Design data architectures tailored for AI applications

About you:

  • You hold at least a master's degree in computer science, biology, medicine or a related field-or possess equivalent expertise
  • You have strong knowledge of HPC and parallel computing
  • You are proficient in C++, CUDA, and Python
  • You are familiar with AI frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and high-performance computing environments
  • You have experience with software development best practices, including Git, Cl/CD pipelines, and software engineering methodologies
  • You have expertise in data engineering and storage, including handling large-scale datasets, databases (SQL/NoSQL), and data pipelines
  • You thrive in a collaborative, international, and interdisciplinary team
  • Experience in machine learning engineering is a plus
  • Familiarity with NCCL is an advantage
  • Basic knowledge of structural biology or chemoinformatics is beneficial
  • You have strong written and spoken English skills

Look forward to a unique working environment on our international research campus. Respectful cooperation and the well-being of our DESY employees are particularly important to us. Gender equality is an important aspect for us. To support work life balance we offer flexible working hours, variable part-time, job-sharing models and participation in mobile work (up to 50%). You will benefit from our family-friendly and collegial atmosphere, our established health management and occupational pension provision. As a public funded employer, we offer you a secure workplace and facilitate your individual career with our comprehensive training and development opportunities. Remuneration is according to the regulations of the TV-AVH. DESY offers its employees a financial supplement for a German job ticket (Deutschland-Ticket) at both locations.

We look forward to receiving your application via our application portal:
