The Department of Physics at TU Dortmund University is offering the following position (starting at the earliest possible date):

Professorship (W2) New technologies for NMR-based metabolomics

 

Our profile

TU Dortmund University comprises 17 departments in the natural and engineering sciences as well as the humanities and social sciences and is a dynamic university with a strong profile in research, teaching, promotion of young scientists and transfer.
The Department of Physics combines excellent research in the focus areas of particle physics, condensed matter physics, and medical physics with a modern and future-oriented teaching concept. It maintains national and international networks in both research and teaching and is successful in attracting third-party funding.
ISAS is a research institute of the Leibniz Association based in Dortmund. The institute is dedicated to developing efficient analytical methods for health research and implementing them in collaboration with its partners. Through its innovations, ISAS contributes to improving the prevention, early diagnosis, and therapy of diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, autoimmune diseases, and cancer. In order to achieve the institute’s aim of advancing personalized therapy, ISAS combines knowledge from physics, medicine, biology, chemistry, pharmacology, and informatics.

 

Profile of the professorship

You represent the experimental research field of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) with a focus on the investigation of metabolites in a biomedical context and further develop this field with international visibility. It would be desirable to establish links between physics, medical physics, life sciences, and medicine. A possible focus of your research can be the development of innovative NMR methods for the investigation of the metabolism of living systems on the scale of cells (2D / 3D culture), organoids, up to biopsies for application in medicine or biomedicine. In doing so, you participate in research networks and cooperations within and outside TU Dortmund University as well as ISAS and are committed to promoting early career researchers. Upon assuming the professorship at TU Dortmund University, you will be granted leave of absence in accordance with the “Jülicher Modell” to lead a research group at ISAS. At the same time, you participate appropriately in the teaching activities of the department in the area of medical physics and physics. During the leave of absence, the teaching load comprises two weekly hours per semester.

 

Your qualifications

You will have obtained a doctorate with above-average success and have acquired a post-doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or an equivalent qualification. You will have demonstrated your research excellence in the field covered by the professorship through continuous publications in recognized peer-reviewed venues and have been successful in obtaining competitively awarded third-party funding. Additionally, you will have the potential for teaching excellence. Social and leadership skills and the willingness to participate in academic self-administration will complete your profile. Moreover, the recruitment requirements in Sections 36 and 37 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, HG) apply.
