Full Professorship (W3) for “Experimental Psychopathology (f/m/d)

to be filled as soon as possible. The professorship will be based at the Central Institute of Mental Health Mannheim (a public-law foundation of the state of Baden-Württemberg, director: Prof. Dr. Andreas Meyer-Lindenberg, commercial director: Andreas-W. Möller).

The Central Institute of Mental Health (CIMH) stands for internationally outstanding research and pioneering treatment concepts in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Addiction Medicine. The special characteristic of the institute is its dual function as a health care and research institution. In the research area, this structure in particular enables the direct implementation of a translational research approach from basic research to clinical application.

The professorship is to model pathomechanisms in the context of behavioral experiments and to investigate these using methods from behavioral research, imaging, peripheral physiology or neurochemistry. Based on the understanding of these pathomechanisms, new psychotherapeutic interventions are to be developed, such as neurofeedback or just-in-time interventions in everyday life. The professorship will primarily contribute to the CIMH research focus on “Understanding the Mechanisms of Risk, Resilience, and Plasticity of Mental Illness”.

The professorship represents the field in research and teaching and is integrated into the current research focuses of the CIMH and the Medical Faculty Mannheim. Successful applicants should present a research profile that focuses on the mechanisms of emotion processing and/or stress-related disorders and, overall, on the methodology of translational research, thus enabling collaboration with clinicians and researchers at a high international level. Applicants should have a proven track record of outstanding scientific accomplishments, successful acquisition of third-party funded projects and international research experience in the field. The future position holder is expected to actively engage in open science practices, such as open access publications, use of open data, and promotion of reproducible research. Initiatives to strengthen open science in psychosomatic research and its translation into practice are welcome.

Requirements for the Full Professorship (W3) for “Experimental Psychopathology”additionally include:

  • A completed university degree in Medicine, Psychology or Neuroscience A qualified doctorate in the relevant field as well as additional scientific achievements in accordance with § 47 (2) of the State Higher Education Act of Baden-Württemberg, which are proven by a habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or habilitation-equivalent achievements Pedagogical aptitude, which is usually demonstrated by experience in teaching Experience in research management and the acquisition of third-party funding Status as an internationally recognized scientist in the field of research into the mechanisms of emotion processing and/or stress-related disorders Extensive expertise in the application of complex data modeling, e.g. in the field of multimodal imaging or ecological momentary assessment

Didactic competency, cooperation and leadership skills, as well as experience in academic self-administration are expected.

The professorship is jointly appointed by Heidelberg University and the Central Institute of Mental Health Mannheim in the ‘Jülich Model’. The professorship is a permanent position. If the general requirements under civil service and budgetary law are met, the appointment to the professorship is usually directly to the status of a tenured civil servant.
