The Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University offers the position of a  

Full Professor (W 3) for “Internal Medicine - Angiology and Diabetology” (f/m/d)

to be filled at the earliest possible date.

The successful candidate should have a distinguished record of qualifications and accomplishments in all areas of Angiology and Diabetology including patient care, research, teaching and administration. Regarding patient care, the candidate will provide the highest level of inpatient and outpatient care for patients with the complete spectrum of vascular diseases, including interventional treatment, and for patients with diabetes mellitus and its micro- and macrovascular complications. He/she will be appointed Chairperson of the newly established VI Medical Clinic - in particular Angiology and Diabetology of the University Medical Center Mannheim. She/he will also be in charge of the University Vascular Medicine Center Mannheim (UGM) which will be further expanded by an interdisciplinary vascular outpatient clinic. The applicant is expected to position the VI. Medical Clinic as a regionally and supra-regionally attractive, competitive and successful institution. Close cooperation with the other Medical Clinics, the Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, the Department of Surgery, the Department of Neurology and the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Allergology is required.

Regarding research, the applicant should have international visibility in central fields of vascular medicine and diabetology documented by high-ranking publications, a strong record of successful extramural funding, and international collaborations. He/she should actively participate in the research focus Vascular Biology and Medicine of the faculty (https://www.umm.uni-heidelberg.de/forschung/forschungsschwerpunkte/vaskulaere-biologie-medizin/ ) and contribute to its further development. Furthermore, she/he should actively contribute to CRC 1366 "Vascular Control of Organ Function" (https://www.sfb1366.de/ ); collaboration with CRC 1118 "Reactive Metabolites as Cause of Diabetic Consequence Damage" (SFB 1118 ) is also desired. Active participation in the European Center for Angioscience (ECAS, www.umm.uni-heidelberg.de/ecas/ ) is expected as well as participation in the Center for Preventive Medicine and Digital Health Baden-Württemberg (CPD-BW, www.umm.uni-heidelberg.de/cpd-bw/ ). Collaboration in other research foci and cross-sectional areas of the faculty (oncology, medical technology, translational neuroscience, inflammation medicine) is welcome. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching internal medicine with a focus on anigology and diabetology within MaReCuM, the restructured modular medical curriculum of the faculty.

Requirements for the application are a completed university degree, a qualified doctorate as well as, according to § 47 (2) Landeshochschulgesetz Baden-Württemberg, a habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or a comparable scientific qualification as well as board certification in internal medicine and angiology or in internal medicine and endocrinology and diabetology.  Curricular training in interventional therapies of arterial diseases (iTAG: according to DGA and DGG), additional board certification in diabetology, and/or comparable angiological and/or diabetological training are desired. In addition, international qualifications in clinical and basic research as well as didactic competence, the ability to lead a department and to collaborate beyond professional boundaries, and commitment to academic self-administration are expected.

The position is available permanently. As a rule, professors who perform tasks in the care of patients in a university hospital are employed permanently under private law according to § 49 (2a) Landeshochschulgesetz Baden-Württemberg.

The successful candidate fulfills tasks in patient care at University Medical Center Mannheim. The position comprises the responsibility for vascular medicine in an in- and outpatient setting, for the University Vascular Medicine Center Mannheim (UGM) and the newly established Interdisciplinary Vascular Outpatient Clinic as well as for the future VI. Medical Clinic - in particular Angiology and Diabetology of University Medical Center Mannheim. A separate contract will be concluded with the Universitätsklinikum Mannheim GmbH for this purpose.
