The Free University Berlin is looking for a student assistant (41h/month) (m/f/d) for the Cluster of Excellence ‘Contestations of the Liberal Script (SCRIPTS)’ for a limited period until December 2025 with the possibility of an extension subject to further funding of the project.
The Cluster of Excellence “Contestations of the Liberal Script (SCRIPTS)” is a research consortium that analyses the contemporary controversies about liberal democracy and the market economy. The term “liberal script” relates to a set of ideas and institutional prescriptions about how society is organised based on the core principle of individual self-determination. The main purpose of SCRIPTS is to understand why the liberal model of order has fallen into crisis despite its political, economic, and social achievements.
SCRIPTS has been operating since 2019 and is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) until the end of 2025. The Cluster is hosted by the Freie Universität Berlin and unites eight major Berlin-based research institutes. Cluster research teams are made up of doctoral researchers, postdoctoral researchers, and professors from social, political, and area studies. SCRIPTS is well connected with research institutes and knowledge exchange partners throughout the world, including political and cultural organisations, as well as civil society actors. In addition, SCRIPTS brings renowned visiting scholars from all over the world to Berlin.
The SCRIPTS Department for Science Communication and Public Relations is responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of the cluster's external communication. The department manages both the cluster's website and its social media channels and is also responsible for organising promotional and informational materials. Additionally, we handle and coordinate inquiries and requests from the press, partners, and the public. Furthermore, the department advises and supports the cluster’s researchers in making their research topics and findings accessible to and understandable for a broader audience.

We offer a varied role with flexible working hours in a supportive and international team consisting of a senior colleague and three student assistants, where creativity and initiative are valued. You will work in a collegial environment with researchers from around the world and have the opportunity to gain insights into the daily operations as well as the strategic planning of science communication and public relations at universities and research institutions.

The selection is done according to the SCRIPTS Diversity Rules & Guidelines: https://www.scripts-berlin.eu/about-us/Diversity
