Offer Description

The main task of the person recruited will be to assist the project coordinators in building up a corpus of ego-documents from the Basque Country (1680-1780) and to make use of it. He/she will be responsible for the project's scientific secretariat and communication.

Main activities:
• Identify and describe documents of interest
• Produce and supervise critical editions of sources
• Cataloguing, archiving and depositing documents in the database
• Carry out research to contextualise documents
• Designing and writing reports relating to the use of documentation

Secondary activities:
1) Assist the project coordinators
• Prepare and organise visits to the archives
• Participate in missions to archives
• Prepare and organise scientific events (workshops, conferences, etc.) and dissemination activities (exhibitions, publications, etc.).
• Keep the project's web pages and social networks up to date

This position is part of the BASQEGO project (ANR 2025-2029), which aims to explore the history of Basque languages through ego-documents (17th and 18th centuries).
The IKER Basque Language and Text Research Centre is a Joint Research Unit (UMR) whose supervisory bodies are the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), the Université Bordeaux Montaigne (UBM) and the Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour (UPPA). The centre is located in Bayonne, on the Nive campus (UPPA).

Eligibility criteria

Knowledge:
• Be an historian, specialising in the 18th century and having already worked on ego-documents.
• Be a good palaeographer
• Be trilingual (French, English, Spanish). Knowledge of Basque would be appreciated.

Expertise:
• Good experience in archival research in France and abroad (England, Spain)
• Cataloguing and archiving documents
• Scientific editing of ancient texts
• Expertise in databases.
• Research documents, bibliographies, data and information in ancient archives.

People skills:
• Be rigorous and organised
• Ability to take initiative
• Good communication skills
• Ability to work in a team
