Offer Description

The postdoctoral contract is associated with the Industrial Engineering Center, which currently comprises 70 members. The center focuses on the dynamics of organizations and the development of decision-support solutions in heterogeneous, collaborative, and uncertain environments. This is implemented through the representation, modeling, and analysis of organizational data to formalize knowledge that leads to decision-making in such contexts.

The center is structured around four applied research axes, which draw on four scientific disciplines:

Research Axes:

  • PSP Axis: Product, service, and process design & development
  • GOL Axis: Supply chain management and organization
  • SGC Axis: Security and crisis management
  • IOS Axis: Organizational engineering for healthcare

Scientific Disciplines:

  • OR: Operational research
  • KC: Knowledge engineering
  • MM: Model engineering
  • DS: Data science

Responsibilities

The contract is part of the xHub project, which aims to develop a fleet of autonomous, environmentally friendly robotic tractors. It will integrate static LiDAR networks to ensure precise localization and obstacle detection, as well as simulation models to optimize logistics operations. A remote supervision and control system will be implemented to ensure centralized and efficient management.

The project’s objectives include:

  • Addressing energy constraints (limited battery autonomy)
  • Managing time constraints (e.g., trailer loading time windows)
  • Minimizing the number of robots
  • Ensuring smooth, safe, and optimized movement

The project will also involve the development of an ergonomic human-machine interface (HMI) and a digital twin to model and optimize logistics operations. The project consortium includes academic, industrial, and technological partners, with IMT Mines Albi being heavily involved in Work Packages (WP) 3 and 4, which deal with robots, HMI, and digital twins. Below figures represent the overview of the candidate test warehouse (left) and the autonomous vehicle (right).

Responsibilities of the Postdoctoral Researcher

  • Design a simulator/digital twin for the autonomous robotic tractor system in collaboration with other work packages (including perception systems using static LiDAR networks and data fusion).
  • Develop a human-machine interface for efficient near real-time fleet management.
  • Propose a solver for the CVRPTW, incorporating energy consumption aspects and autonomous vehicle fleet constraints.
  • Adapt the solver for dynamic problem-solving and integrate machine learning (ML) or reinforcement learning (RL) methods.
  • Conduct a literature review on the above topics, contribute to scientific publications, and present project results at national and international conferences.

Required Profile

  • Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or Robotics.
  • Expertise in discrete event simulation, operational research, reinforcement learning, or logistics system modeling.
  • Experience with IoT systems, augmented perception (LiDAR, sensors), or artificial intelligence.
  • Strong programming skills (Python, C++, etc.).

Working Conditions

  • 24-month fixed-term contract based at the Industrial Engineering Center of IMT Mines Albi.
  • Participation in scientific (conferences, seminars) and industrial events (steering committees, site visits).

Application Process

Interested candidates should submit the following documents:

  • Detailed research CV
  • Motivation letter explaining their suitability for the position

Application Deadline: 6 March 2025
