Offer Description
To characterize a novel sRNA delivery system to control microbial infections.
Avian influenza is a devastating viral disease affecting birds, with a very high mortality rate in poultry farming. Importantly, certain subtypes of avian viruses, such as H5N1, can cross the species barrier and infect humans. There is therefore an urgent need to find effective solutions to control H5N1, with treatment logistics and storage that are compatible with poultry farming conditions. Here, we propose to develop an innovative therapeutical and vaccination approach to fight avian influenza. The technology involves the administration of extracellular plant or microalgal vesicles containing antiviral small interfering RNAs and relevant antigens of H5N1. The aim of the project will be to generate and characterize plant and microalgae lines producing these active compounds in extracellular vesicles and to establish the proof of concept that such treatments can limit viral infection in a pre-clinical model.
The candidate will work in an international research team investigating the molecular mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions and the genetic and epigenetic regulation of gene expression (plant, microalgal and human cell model systems). The candidate will have access to all IBENS platforms (imaging, genomics, human cell culture, etc) and will benefit from a bench and office space within the team.
