Offer Description

The Department of Computing, Faculty of Technology at the University of Turku is looking for a Postdoctoral researcher in the field of health technology. The position is fixed-term starting as soon as possible, according to mutual agreement, and ending on September 30, 2027. The work is full-time, although part-time work is possible.

The position is open in a Horizon Europe project STIMULUS  project (Speckle Technology and Digital Biomarkers of Microvascular Function for Monitoring Cardiovascular Diseases, 1.10.2023 - 30.9.2027), funded by a European Innovation Council Pathfinder grant. In the project, we develop new instruments for assessing adverse changes in microcirculatory status linked to hypertension, chronic kidney disease and heart failure, leading to earlier detection of cardiovascular diseases. The instruments are developed and validated in clinical trials. We integrate two state-of-the-art technologies leading to a novel innovation, 3D speckle tissue monitoring.  

The University of Turku leads the project and oversees a work package focusing on instrument development and extraction of novel digital biomarkers.  

What we offer   

As a postdoctoral researcher you will join the innovative Health technology research group  at the University of Turku and a consortium of leading research institutes from Netherlands, Denmark, France, and Germany. Our research group develops new medical devices and monitoring solutions. We cooperate with hospitals as was well as work within large, multi-national research project consortiums.  

You will have the opportunity to develop new innovative medical instruments, and participate in clinical trials. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary research group with both clinical/hospital and international collaboration, and will have the opportunity to pursue your own ideas, participate in other interesting side projects and carry out international research visits. All this leads to good possibilities to advance your research career.

Your experience and ambitions   

Preferably, you have a technical background in engineering or engineering physics, enthusiasm for developing solutions to improve healthcare, and expertise in one or more of the following:    

  • Medical instrumentation 
  • Hemodynamics  
  • Embedded programming 
  • Optical technologies  
  • Electronics 
  • Research experience

Qualification requirements 

The qualification requirements of the position are stated in the University of Turku Rules of Procedure:  Organisation and Management of the University of Turku | University of Turku  

A person selected for the post of Postdoctoral researcher is required to have a doctoral degree and the ability to conduct independent scientific work as well as having the necessary teaching skills.   
 

Salary & trial period 

The salary is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. For a Postdoctoral researcher the salary will be in the beginning of the employment around 3500–3800 euros/month, depending on previous experience and skills. The amount of the salary is defined when the employment contract is prepared.  

A six (6) month trial period applies to the position.
