As part of expanding the Centre for Visual Data Science, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, invites applications for a Postdoc position in Computer Science with a focus on visual data science. An ideal candidate has a solid education in computer science, data science or applied mathematics as well as demonstrated research experience in one of the following topics:
- visualization & visual analytics
- human-computer interaction
- computer vision
- natural language processing or computational linguistics
Experience in developing computing infrastructures (like Kubernetes) for large projects and/or in developing machine learning solutions is a plus. In addition, the capability to successfully conduct research projects in interdisciplinary collaborations with domain experts in the humanities, social sciences, biology, defense or health is perceived as a fundamental skill for employment at the Centre for Visual Data Science. Fluency in English and Python are required.
The successful candidate will be based in Odense, under the primary supervision of Prof. Stefan Jänicke. Upon negotiation, the appointment will be made for an initial term of either 1 (one) or 2 (two) years at a competitive salary, with possibility of extension up to an extra (third) year, depending on a candidate’s performance and other future circumstances, including funding availability and project needs.
The proposed starting date is 1 April 2025.

Based in Odense, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers an inclusive and international working environment with state-of-the-art facilities as well as a strong tradition for collaboration across departments and faculties, and with other educational institutions, municipalities, and industries. The degrees offered by the department include bachelor, masters, and PhD in computer science, and a masters in data science. Our assistant and associate professors have very reasonable teaching loads.
