    The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated Researcher to join the Institute’s STARC Centre on a full-time basis (100% FTE) for its premises at Athalassa’s Campus. 

     

    The successful candidate will work closely with the A. G. Leventis Professor in Archaeological Sciences and others to establish an online database of published metal compositions for copper-based artefacts from Cyprus, and to write a review paper on the use of brass and zinc in Cyprus from the earliest time to the early modern period. They will submit requests to study including sampling artefacts in relevant public collections, conduct microscopic and chemical analyses, and document the results to the highest academic standards.

    Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:

  • Collate published chemical and lead isotope analyses of copper-based objects from Cyprus
  • Develop with relevant colleagues an online database for analysed copper-based objects
  • Draft a review-level manuscript for publication in a suitable journal on brass and zinc in Cyprus
  • Cooperate with the De Cadmeia project at STARC

    Specific Requirements

    Position Specific Required Qualifications:

    • PhD in Chemistry, Metallurgy, Geology or related fields, and or Specialisation in archaeometallurgy
    • Relevant publication on Cypriot copper-based metal artefacts
    • Experience working with public museum collections and excavation archives
    • Experience in handheld XRF analysis

     

    Position Preferred Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of local and national collections of archaeological metal artefacts
    • Experience in collaborating with academic and non-academic stakeholders
    • Full driving license for passenger cars

    Duration of appointment: 

    The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 6 months with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds. 

     

    Remuneration details:

    Salary Band: CYI4(1-9)

    Position’s Starting Salary: CYI4.1 - €37641.89, CYI4.2 - €39457.6, CYI4.3 - €41273.31, CYI4.4 - €43089.02
