Hiring Unit:
Department of Biology (Professor Abigail Gerhold)
Position Summary:
- Performs classic genetics to construct new C. elegans strains, as needed.
- Performs live-cell imaging of C. elegans mitotic germ cells.
- Processes live-cell imaging data, and assists with data analysis.
- Maintains C elegans nematode strains.
Qualifications:
- Excellent attention to detail, record keeping abilities and time management.
- Strong ability to work independently, once trained.
- Responsive to feedback.
- Flexible schedule to accommodate experiments.
Education/Experience:
- Familiarity with C. elegans as a model system.
- Familiarity with basic concepts of development, tissue morphogenesis, cell biology and mitotic cell division.
- Experience with basic sterile procedures and molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, gel electrophoresis).
- At least one year of experience working in a molecular and/or cell biology lab environment.
- At least three years of bachelor's level coursework in molecular and/or cell biology, or a closely related field.
- Background in development and/or cell biology.
- WHMIS and biosafety trainings an asset.
Location: This position is located in Montreal, Quebec and the work for this position is expected to be performed in Quebec.
Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # (3) qualifier on a scale of 0-4.
