Hiring Unit:

Department of Biology (Professor Abigail Gerhold)

Position Summary:

• Performs classic genetics to construct new C. elegans strains, as needed.
• Performs live-cell imaging of C. elegans mitotic germ cells.
• Processes live-cell imaging data, and assists with data analysis.
• Maintains C elegans nematode strains.

Qualifications:

• Excellent attention to detail, record keeping abilities and time management.
• Strong ability to work independently, once trained.
• Responsive to feedback.
• Flexible schedule to accommodate experiments.

Education/Experience:

• Familiarity with C. elegans as a model system.
• Familiarity with basic concepts of development, tissue morphogenesis, cell biology and mitotic cell division.
• Experience with basic sterile procedures and molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, gel electrophoresis).
• At least one year of experience working in a molecular and/or cell biology lab environment.
• At least three years of bachelor's level coursework in molecular and/or cell biology, or a closely related field.
• Background in development and/or cell biology.
• WHMIS and biosafety trainings an asset.

Location:  This position is located in Montreal, Quebec and the work for this position is expected to be performed in Quebec.

Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.  The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # (3) qualifier on a scale of 0-4.
