Hiring Unit:
International Student Services
Position Summary:

Under supervision and guidance of the Manager of Student Development & Communications, the 4 positions are responsible for overseeing
1) Social Events and Programs
2) The First Friends Program
3) ISS social media
4) ISS website

Primary Responsibilities:

1.Orientation and Events: Oversees:

  • Manages ISS Meet & Greet events
  • Organizes Summer Socials (weekly and in-person)
  • Leads Bitesize MTL excursions
  • Helps develop new programs for international students
  • Supports the Communications Team and presents a student face in ISS Reels

2.Oversees the First Friend Peer to Peer Program

  • Manages 7 peer groups in the New Student Network Platform to connect new international admits based on their world region
  • Oversees weekly discussions across the groups on the platform
  • Engages new students in weekly chats
  • Refers new students to campus-wide resources
  • Supports the Communications Team and presents a student face in ISS Reels
  • Assists with in-person events and at orientation programs

3.ISS Social Media

  • Updates ISS Instagram account on a weekly basis
  • Creates upcoming ISS Reels
  • Promotes ISS programming
  • Edits ISS newsletters
  • Develops ISS promotional materials in Canva
  • To launch an ISS presence via LinkedIn and maintains content on a weekly basis
  • Serves as back-up for ISS website maintenance

4.Oversees ISS website and affiliated online resources that support international students

  • Event registration via MS Forms and MyInvolvement
  • Oversees ISS web audits
  • Reviews ISS website for accuracy; proposes improvements and makes updates

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

  • Social Media and web prowess: Instagram, Reels, LinkedIn, Canva (Positions 3 and 4)
  • In-depth knowledge of McGill services and resources
  • Awareness of international students’ needs and issues
  • Must possess exceptional organizational skills and show attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and as a member of a team
  • Ability to take initiative and problem-solve
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Spoken French and other spoken languages considered an asset

Knowledge of English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 written (fluent) and a level 4 verbal (fluent) on a scale of 0-4 .
