 The Department of Integrated Studies in Education invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience directly related to Plurilingual Education with a focus on French Second Language Teaching and Learning. We seek a dynamic scholar and collaborative colleague with an exciting research agenda. A strong background in social justice education, through increasing the plurilingual competence of K-12 students in French as a second language education programs, including in immersion contexts, is an essential component of this position. 


 


Job Duties: 


Teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, supervision of individual students, and assessment of student work; 


Funded research (applying for grants will be required) and other original scholarly activities, as well as professional activities that contribute to a larger discourse; and 


Other contributions to the University and scholarly communities. 


 


Qualifications and Education Requirements: 


Applicants should hold a PhD degree at the time of taking up the appointment in second language education, applied linguistics, and/or a related field. ABD applicants whose doctoral defense has been scheduled may be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in both French and English, so fluency in both languages is essential. An additional language would be an asset. 


 


The successful candidate must have: 


  • a specialization in teaching French as s second language (e.g., immersion education or other content-based approaches) 


  • experience in teacher education; and 


  • a background in social justice education. 


Assets for this position include: 


  • elementary/secondary school and/or higher education teaching experience related to second language pedagogy in Quebec and/or Canada; 


  • experience in classroom-based research; 


  • experience in decolonial and plurilingual pedagogies; 


  • experience with qualitative/ethnographic approaches to research; 


  • experience with mixed methods research; 


  • graduate supervision 


  • experience teaching French as an additional language to learners of any age 


  • knowledge of, and connection to, marginalised and/or racialized communities; and 


  • awareness of the socio-political context of language education in Quebec.
