Offer Description

The Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IMI-BAS) announces two postdoctoral positions (R2 - Recognized Researcher) as part of the Topological, Computational, and Algebraic Aspects of Complex Systems Research Group, affiliated with the International Center for Mathematical Sciences – Sofia  (ICMS-Sofia).

The Lupercio Group, led by Prof. Ernesto Lupercio, focuses on cutting-edge research at the intersection of several areas of mathematics, including:

  • Applications of Machine Learning in Pure Mathematics, with emphasis on knot theory and complex topological structures.
  • Complex Systems and Tropical Geometry, investigating the mathematical foundations of emergent phenomena in algebraic and topological models.
  • Sandpile groups and their algebraic and geometric structures, exploring their role in tropical geometry and dynamical systems.
  • O-minimality and its applications in geometry, particularly in connection with definable structures and topological aspects.
  • Hodge Theory and its extensions beyond the algebraic setting.
  • McKay Correspondence and Representation Theory, with applications in derived equivalences and singularities.
  • Non-commutative and Quantum Toric Geometry, developing novel categorical frameworks for toric structures and their quantum analogues.
  • Self-Organized Criticality in Mathematics, exploring emergent behaviors in mathematical models inspired by tropical and algebraic geometry.

Position Details

  • The selected candidates will be affiliated with ICMS-Sofia, a leading center for mathematical research within IMI-BAS.
  • The positions are financially supported by the Simons Foundation and funds from the Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria
  • The salaries are competitive, and successful candidates may have the opportunity to transition into permanent positions at IMI-BAS.

Application Requirements

Candidates must submit the following:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • List of Publications
  • Research Statement/Plan
  • Three Letters of Recommendation

Application and Contact Details
