We announce the opening of one post-doctoral fellowship in the study of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) which focuses on their conformational properties in aqueous solution and interaction with biological membranes. The project is coordinated by Prof. Rosangela Itri at the University of São Paulo's Physics Institute in Brazil (IF-USP), under the aegis of an umbrella project based at the São Paulo State University's Institute of Biosciences, Letters and Exact Sciences (IBILCE-UNESP); its theoretical/experimental approach combines small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation, under conditions that consider IDPs oligomerization mechanisms catalyzed by biological interfaces (model lipid membranes).

The main objectives include: SAXS experimental measurements from samples containing IDPs in aqueous solution and in the presence of lipid membranes, with approach of chemical groups scattering, to obtain electron density profiles of membrane structure and conformation/oligomerization states of IDPs; determination of the respective electron density profiles by MD simulation to complement/validate SAXS data.

The project will be developed at IF-USP and relies on collaborations with experts in SAXS, circular dichroism, MD and novel computational algorithms to maximize advances in the field. The project is aligned with post-doctoral program of the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), which aims to train early-career researchers.

Requirements: Background in physics, molecular biophysics, biochemistry, or biomolecular sciences; Previous experience in SAXS or MD is desirable.

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 12,000.00 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
