Offer Description

The Immunophysiology Laboratory of Professor Thomas Marichal, located at the GIGA Institute, is seeking a Master's graduate in bioinformatics, computational biology, or equivalent, to strengthen its research team and contribute to the implementation of 'omics' data analysis methods in the context of immuno-infectiology. This work will be carried out in collaboration with researchers, an in-house bioinformatician, and the GIGA Bioinformatics Platform.

The Immunophysiology Laboratory (www.gigaimmunophysology.uliege.be ) primarily focuses on the mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of chronic respiratory disorders (asthma, COPD, viral immunopathologies) using advanced techniques and models in immunophysiology. There is a particular interest in epithelial and myeloid cell biology. Briefly, the research is structured around three main axes: a fundamental axis investigating these mechanisms primarily through disease models in laboratory mice, a human axis studying viral infections and exacerbations of asthma and chronic obstructive bronchopneumonia, in collaboration with the university hospital (CHU), and a veterinary axis in collaboration with several teams of clinician-researchers within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

The team, young and dynamic, currently consists of PhD researchers, postdoctoral fellows, a bioinformatician, and a laboratory technician, totaling about ten members. The laboratory’s expertise is internationally recognized, and its work has led to scientific publications in top journals in the field (Nature Medicine, Nature Immunology, Immunity, Science Immunology). The research is financially supported by prestigious grants, both international (ERC Consolidator Grant) and national (Baillet Latour Prize, Welbio Advanced Grant, etc.). The environment is highly stimulating and ideal for engaging in high-potential research. Given recent technological developments, the generation, analysis, and integration of large amounts of 'multiomics' data have become indispensable in the life sciences and particularly in immunology to address tomorrow’s health challenges.

Required Qualifications / Profile- hold a Master's degree in Sciences with a focus on bioinformatics / modeling / computational biology (or equivalent)- demonstrate a strong interest in scientific research in the aforementioned fields- master oral and written English- demonstrate autonomy, pro-activity, and ability to integrate into a teamThe contract will be a one-year, renewable CDD. Depending on the ambitions of the candidate, the possibility of carrying out a doctoral thesis may be considered.InformationsProf. Thomas Marichal (t.marichal@uliege.be )ApplicationsCandidates are requested to send their CV and a cover letter by email to Professor Thomas Marichal (T.Marichal@uliege.be ).
